The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and strengthening financial controls across all manufacturing sites. This role serves as the primary financial partner to Plant Managers and acts as a key liaison between Operations and Corporate Finance. The position ensures accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting while driving operational efficiency and margin improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure effective internal controls are designed, implemented, and operating across all manufacturing locations.
- Maintain compliance with SOX requirements and support both internal and external audit processes.
- Prepare and document control narratives and testing related to manufacturing accounting.
- Monitor, analyze, and report production costs on a regular basis, identifying trends and variances.
- Perform detailed cost analyses for existing products, new product introductions, and process changes.
- Analyze manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead) and provide actionable insights to Operations leadership.
- Recommend adjustments to standard costs and pricing strategies to protect and improve margins.
- Develop detailed cost estimates to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Lead month-end and quarterly close activities related to manufacturing operations within SAP.
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of journal entries, cost rollups, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Support FICO reconciliations and ensure alignment between plant-level and corporate financial reporting.
- Prepare management reporting packages and operational performance dashboards.
Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary financial contact for Plant Managers.
- Provide operational finance support, data analysis, and decision-making insights.
- Translate financial data into actionable operational recommendations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting or Finance preferred.
- CPA or CMA designation is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of exempt-level accounting/finance experience within a chemical plant, refinery, or manufacturing environment required.
- 3–5 years of direct manufacturing cost accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience supporting plant operations and partnering with operations leadership.
- Advanced SAP proficiency required, including reporting, transactions, and month-end closing processes.
- Experience with SAP FICO reconciliation preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling).
Salary : $100,000 - $125,000
