Morgan County Fire Chief

Job Summary

The Fire Chief serves as the executive leader of the Morgan County Fire & EMS Department. This position is responsible for directing and managing all fire suppression, emergency medical services, training, prevention, and administrative functions of the department. The Fire Chief ensures that all operations are conducted in compliance with county policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administers the annual fire budget in accordance with county policies and procedures
  • Directs and occasionally participates in incident command at emergency scenes
  • Responds to fire and EMS calls as needed
  • Coordinates with other agencies to have mutual aid for community needs
  • Provides support in fire prevention and investigation including inspection of commercial and residential developments
  • Ensures that all equipment is up to date and in good working condition
  • Researches, prepares, and applies for grants that applicable to Morgan Fire Department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • (An equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible fire service leadership experience may be considered.)
  • State of Utah Firefighter II certification (must maintain as a condition of employment).
  • Officer I certification (must maintain as a condition of employment).
  • State of Utah AEMT certification (must maintain as a condition of employment).
  • NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 certifications (required for participation in regional emergency management operations).
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive fire service experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or command position within a combination (career and volunteer) department.
  • Demonstrated success in managing budgets, procurement, and county or municipal funding processes.
  • Experience leading combination staffing models (career, part-time, and volunteer), with a strong focus on recruitment, retention, and professional development.
  • Proven track record in emergency incident command, including large-scale wildland/urban interface events and multi-agency responses.
  • Experience with apparatus and water supply planning for rural environments, including the use of water tenders, drafting sites, and fire flow calculations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with volunteer and paid part-time fire department.
  • State of Utah Paramedic certification

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 100 pounds
  • Must be able to go on EMS and Fire calls and help with a variety of situations including providing medical attention and suppressing fire
  • Must be able to move through a variety of settings including offices, homes, and commercial building with ease
