What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Lineman position at Morgan County Rural Electric Association?
General Purpose
Provide outstanding service to association’s members, board of directors, management, employees and affiliated organizations with a commitment to courtesy and professionalism.
Position Overview
Under direct/indirect supervision, performs construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission lines, along with related service work.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct and maintain energized and de-energized overhead and underground power lines.
- Perform service tasks such as meter reading, voltage testing, service connections/disconnections, and outage response.
- Replace damaged electrical components and perform system upgrades.
- Maintain equipment, stock materials, and document work performed.
- Train and occasionally supervise apprentice linemen and crews.
- Respond to after-hours calls, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Follow safety protocols and DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Must reside within 20 miles or 30 minutes of the assigned office.
Additional Duties
- Supervise small crews when assigned.
- Work on energized systems up to 12,470 volts.
- Be prepared to fulfill operator duties and other tasks as trained or required.
Requirements
- Union membership is required upon hire.
- Trained in a recognized apprenticeship for Journeyman Lineman.
- Trained in pole top and bucket rescue.
- Must have basic working knowledge of SCADA system.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements. (Required prior to employment)
- Valid First Aid/CPR card.
- Must have an effective working knowledge of RUS construction specifications and the National Electrical Safety Code.
- Must be able to operate a volt-ohm, amp, rotation, and phasing, etc. meters.
- Must know, understand, and apply all OSHA and company regulations and safety rules necessary to perform the job.
- Must be able to accurately read and interpret staking sheets and maps.
- Must possess specialized abilities and skills to allow the employee to climb poles and towers.
