THE POSITION
The Information Technology Technician serves as a frontline resource for resolving technical issues and maintaining the City’s computer systems and hardware. As a key member of the project team, this role provides first- and second-level support for hardware, software, and peripheral devices, ensuring smooth and secure operations across departments. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving helpdesk requests, installing and configuring equipment and software, maintaining inventory databases, and supporting network printers and cabling. This position offers hands-on experience in municipal Technology Service operations, with opportunities to contribute to system upgrades, user training, and technology-driven service improvements.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Information Technology Technician is the first-level class in the information technology class series. Initially under direct supervision, an incumbent performs a variety of help desk and workstation duties while learning the City's technology environment. As experience is gained, incumbents work under general supervision and perform the full range of assigned helpdesk and workstation support duties. Assignments vary, seldom require detailed instructions, and require sound judgment and initiative.
Information Technology Technician is distinguished from Senior Information Technology Technician in that an incumbent in the latter class performs installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of hardware and software requiring more extensive technical experience and knowledge of the City's technology infrastructure and operating environment and assists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; and three years of increasingly responsible experience in IT hardware and software support; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Completion of coursework in computer sciences, management, information systems or a closely related field is highly desirable but not required.
ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY SERVICES DIVISION
Technology Services is responsible for the centralized design, maintenance, security and support of the City’s communication infrastructure, computer network, telephone/radio systems, and applications to ensure the continued viability and sustainability of citywide technology assets, including computer hardware, software, networks, telecommunications, and audio/visual equipment..
THE CITY
Moreno Valley was incorporated in 1984 as a General Law City, merging the communities of Moreno, Sunnymead and Edgemont. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of an elected Mayor and four Council Members elected by district. The City has a committed customer-service oriented workforce comprised of more than 450 employees who provide a wide-range of municipal services including Public Works, Economic Development, Community Development, Parks and Community Services, Financial and Management Services and Library services. The City contracts with Riverside County for Police and Fire services.
