The Business Program Manager provides operational, administrative, regulatory, and programmatic support for the Center for Laboratory Animal Resources (CLAR). This position is responsible for coordinating business operations, managing compliance- related processes, supporting animal research oversight programs, implementing technology-driven improvements, maintaining regulatory documentation, and facilitating communication across institutional stakeholders. This role serves as a key liaison between CLAR, researchers, institutional stakeholders, leadership teams, and administrative departments to ensure efficient operations and compliance with applicable regulations and accreditation standards.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Facilitate communication and information among employees, investigators, laboratory personnel, committee members, and institutional administrators. Serve as a resource among all key stakeholders regarding operational processes and compliance requirements.
  • Create user guides, training materials, and documentation to support business processes, system utilization, and departmental initiatives.
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety programs within academic or research environments.
  • Maintain records and documentation associated with all health and safety, regulatory information in accordance with institutional, federal, and accreditation requirements.
  • Support ongoing compliance monitoring and quality assurance initiatives, special projects, and operational initiatives that enhance departmental effectiveness and organizational performance
  • Review, update, and coordinate departmental standard operating procedures (SOP’s) policies and compliance documents.
  • Support onboarding and training activities related to departmental operations and regulatory programs.
  • Analyze business processes to identify opportunities for efficiency, cost saving, modernization, and automation through technology solutions and workflow optimization.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Experience with Cayuse, Banner, or similar research administration and enterprise management systems.
  • Experience in supporting research compliance programs, IACUC administration, or laboratory animal research operations.
  • Provide administrative and operational support for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) activities and animal research programs.
  • Knowledge of AAALAC, USDA, PHS policy and other regulatory requirements governing animal research.
  • Asist with preparation, coordination and documentation related to AAALAC International accreditation activities and site visits.
  • Work closely with the Director of Operations, IACUC Chair, Occupational Safety Director, Environmental Safety Officer and Attending Veterinarian to ensure compliance with program goals and provide administrative support.
  • Track project progress and provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Design and implement operational improvements that enhance productivity and customer experience.
  • Responsible for planning, administering, reviewing, and evaluating all activities related to a program providing service and opportunities or facilitating projects for the Institution.
  • Responsible for program design and the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops strategies to achieve program objectives and goals; assists in the efficient operation of the program, setting priorities for management, budget, and fiscal activities.
  • Assists in the development and formulation of the annual budget; prepares budgetary documents and reports; oversees other budgetary data and information for the program, providing requested documentation during annual audits.
  • Maintain an awareness of new procedures and technologies by attending workshops and training sessions as appropriate at MSM.
  • Maintain a professional rapport with Project PI s, Core Administrator and Leaders, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Grants and Contracts, various departments, staff, accommodation facilities, travel agencies, and vendors.

Skilled in oral and written communication

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: 2-4 years of related experience.
