JOB VACANCY: Child Nutrition Cafeteria Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW
Morehouse Parish School District is seeking a highly organized and results-driven Child Nutrition Cafeteria Manager to lead daily operations of the school nutrition program at Morehouse Elementary School. The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of nutritious, high-quality meals in compliance with USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements, Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) regulations, and district policies while maintaining a safe, efficient, and student-centered cafeteria environment.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
Employment Type: Full-Time 9-Month Contract Non- Exempt
Salary: In accordance with the MPSD Level 7 Schedule 7 Pay Scale and applicable state & district guidelines

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver standards-aligned instruction based on Louisiana Health & Physical Education Standards
- Design engaging lessons to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles
- Teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and responsible decision-making
- Oversee daily cafeteria operations in accordance with USDA and LDOE guidelines
- Ensure compliance with National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs
- Maintain accurate meal counts, records, and inventory systems
- Plan menus and oversee meal preparation aligned with nutrition standards
- Supervise, train, and evaluate cafeteria staff
- Ensure food safety, sanitation, and HACCP compliance
- Manage inventory, ordering, and cost control
- Maintain kitchen equipment and facilities
- Provide excellent customer service to students and staff
- Collaborate with administration and district Child Nutrition staff
- Ensure compliance with audits and regulatory requirements
- Maintain a clean, safe cafeteria environment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor degree preferred)
- Experience in food service or cafeteria management
- Knowledge of USDA School Nutrition Programs
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to manage staff, inventory, and records
- Proficiency with food service equipment and POS systems
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to student health and safety
WORK EVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the physical, mental, and environmental conditions necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (6–8 hours daily)
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 40–50 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive motions and operate kitchen equipment safely
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout the kitchen environment
- Ability to tolerate temperature variations including hot and cold environments
- Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Ability to analyze data and maintain accurate records
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and administration
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to supervise staff and maintain a positive working environment
- Work performed in a school cafeteria/kitchen setting with moderate noise levels
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, kitchen equipment, and food allergens
- Frequent interaction with students, staff, and district personnel
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ServSafe or Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience as a Cafeteria Manager or Lead Worker
- Experience in school or institutional food service
- Knowledge of Louisiana nutrition reporting systems
- Experience with budgeting and inventory control
- Experience supervising staff
- Familiarity with Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems and reporting
