More Gardens! Fund is a grassroots nonprofit rooted in environmental justice, community art, and education. We protect, design, and activate community gardens and open spaces across New York City, especially in the Lower East Side and South Bronx.

Our initiatives, like Sprouting Justice and Rise Up! Green the Bronx!, combine ecological restoration, children’s education, and public art. We center the leadership and voices of BIPOC communities most impacted by environmental racism and climate vulnerability.

As we grow our funding and capacity, we are looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Grants Assistant Intern who is excited to learn and support a living ecosystem of urban gardens, living tree structures, and public green design.


🌱 Role Description

This Grants Assistant Internship is a full-time (or structured part-time) opportunity located in New York City (on-site preferred). You’ll work directly with the Executive Director and our small, dedicated team to support the research, development, and administration of public and private grants, especially:

  • NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) – programming & capital grants
  • NYC Parks Capital projects & tree canopy efforts
  • City Council discretionary funds (e.g., Council Members Marte & Ayala)
  • Collaborative grants with organizations like South Bronx Unite
  • Federal and foundation funding (e.g., EPA EJ grants via Fordham)

You will also learn how to work within Bloomerang, a leading CRM platform for nonprofit donor and grant management.


🛠 Responsibilities

  • Assist in writing and editing proposals and supporting documents
  • Conduct prospect research for public and private funders
  • Organize grant application calendars and reporting deadlines
  • Prepare materials for collaborative meetings with community partners
  • Maintain records and data in Bloomerang
  • Participate in on-site community events as needed (e.g., garden visits, tabling).
  • Help shape the foundation of a long-term philanthropic strategy centered on justice, equity, and community voice.


💡 Qualifications

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Experience or coursework in philanthropy, nonprofit management, urban planning, or grantwriting
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort working in a collaborative and multicultural environment
  • Interest in environmental and social justice, especially in BIPOC-led communities
  • Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, Airtable) is a plus
  • Lived or community-based experience in NYC’s LES, South Bronx, or similar neighborhoods is a bonus


📍 Internship Details

  • Unpaid position, but includes local travel & food stipends
  • Flexible start/end dates (Fall 2025 preferred)
  • 15–32 hours/week with the option to scale
  • Can qualify for college credit depending on the institution
