As a Material Handler, you will play an essential role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and accurate movement of materials throughout the facility. This includes skidding and packaging machine tool products, receiving and inspecting incoming materials, organizing inventory, and preparing items for production or shipment. You will also help maintain inventory accuracy through proper documentation and labeling while operating material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts. This position requires a strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork to ensure materials are available where and when needed to meet production and shipping schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately record all materials entering or leaving the facility, ensuring proper documentation and data entry into the system (raw materials, vendor-supplied components, finished goods, subassemblies, etc.).
- Picks and prepares job packages for assembly based on computer-generated pick lists.
- Verifies incoming materials against purchase orders for correct part numbers and quantities; processes and enters packing list information into the MRP system.
- Assists in reconciling inventory discrepancies and participate in periodic physical inventory counts.
- Supports the setup and maintenance of floor stock and work-in-process inventory areas.
- Maintains adherence to production schedules and demonstrate effective time management, including overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
- Keeps the stockroom and shipping areas organized and clean (trash removal, sweeping, and general housekeeping).
- Prepares outbound shipments, including:
- Machine shipments and skid building
- Verifying shipment accuracy against sales orders
- Ensuring shipment quality (appearance, paint, packaging, etc.)
- Assists with chemical depository and waste management, including ordering, labeling, storage, disposal, and record keeping.
- Builds and maintains professional relationships with vendors, coworkers, and management.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures, promoting a clean and organized work environment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years of related experience preferred.
- Basic carpentry skills and proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Computer skills, including MS Office (Word and Excel).
- Experience operating forklifts or other powered industrial trucks.
- Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
