The Engineering Designer aids in the design and development of detailed construction drawings for complex civil engineering projects.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists in client contact and communication pertaining to project specific technical items.
  • Assists in quantity estimates and the development of opinions of probable construction cost estimates.
  • Conducts design-related field reconnaissance site visits to gather project related technical information.
  • Analyzes sketches, notes, and other materials to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete the drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Assists in the preparation of design computations.
  • Assists in the preparation or modification of construction drawings and designs for projects.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare design computations and construction drawings.
  • Maintains routine communication/coordination with the project manager/engineer related to design decisions.
  • May conduct periodic site visits to monitor constructions progress.
  • May serve as the onsite project representative.
  • May oversee CADD Technician(s) for project specific assignments.
  • Performs drafting, as required.
  • Responsible for quality control.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in civil engineering or related field and 10 years of drafting experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation with at least 6 of those years applying civil engineering principles to make design decisions
  • Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple projects
  • Understanding of GIS and ESRI ArcView software preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
