Classroom Substitute

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a health examination issued by the local county board of health or a recognized medical authority
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs regular teacher’s class plan while the teacher is absent, including but not limited to the following:
- Reports to the principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school
- Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students
- Maintains, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned
- Assumes the responsibilities for instructing classes when a teacher is absent
- Assumes other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and other activities
- Consults, as appropriate, with the principal or department or grade level head, before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plans
- Maintains appropriate records, including checking test papers, recording grades, student assignments for homework, projects and the necessary clerical work required to maintain student records for a teacher who is absent
- Provides for individualized and small group assistance for students as indicated by lesson plans
- Follows all district and individual school policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching dictates
- Performs any additional duties as required or assigned by the supervisor

Child Nutrition Substitute

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a health examination issued by the local county board of health or a recognized medical authority
Essential Job Functions:
- Arrives on time
- Maintains a working relationship with other employees and staff
- Politely and respectfully serves students, staff, parents and others
- Accepts responsibility for multiple tasks without supervision
- Follows a work schedule, plans ahead and helps others on the Child Nutrition team
- Washes and prepares vegetables for cooking
- May bake cookies when needed
- Cleans oven, deep-fat fryer, tilt skillet or other heating equipment in the kitchen
- Takes out trash and washes trash cans
- Collects meal money from students and records (either manually or by using the computer system) the number of students eating
- Prepares chef salads
- Checks in groceries, puts them in storage, takes inventory and dates the food in stock
- Cleans refrigerator, milk box, freezer and holding cabinets
- Cleans service line
- Runs dishwasher
- Cleans windows, walls, tables and chairs in dining room
- Washes and cuts up chicken, pork, beef and turkey for preparation
- Prepares bread, biscuits, cornbread, etc., from recipe
- Maintains daily production record of food
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:

Must be able to:
- stand for six continuous hours
- stoop, squat, kneel and/or bend in a manner that allows the palms to touch the floor (as in cleaning of baseboards, equipment, etc.)
- bend from a standing position in a manner that allows palms to touch the knees (as in washing pots and pans in deep sinks and cleaning milk boxes)
- bend from the waist in a standing position with arms outstretched for an extended period of time (as in service of food)
- twist, turn and/or stretch from side to side that allows the shoulders to be perpendicular to the hips (as in mopping, sweeping, stocking shelves, removing food from ovens, etc.)

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- General knowledge and experience of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment, and the ability to use them economically and efficiently
- Possession of a health examination issued by the local county board of health or a recognized medical authority
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs responsible unskilled work in the care and cleaning of school facilities
- Performs a variety of general and light grounds keeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned buildings and facilities
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes, and buffs floor surfaces
- Cleans and disinfects restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary
- Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds, heating/air vents and light fixtures
- Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture
- Empties trash receptacles; gathers and disposes of refuse in on-site dumpsters
- Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picks up debris, applies de-icing compounds to walkways as necessary
- Cleans and sanitizes waste baskets
- Cleans and sanitizes water fountains
- Raises and lowers flags, as needed
- Opens buildings at start of workday; securely locks down facility at end of day (varies depending on hours asked to work)
- Washes windows on both the inside and outside
- Arranges furniture, tables and chairs for meetings and other events
- Mows and trims grass on campus grounds
- Trims shrubbery, trees, etc.
- Rakes and removes leaves as necessary
- Makes minor building repairs, as able
- Reports major repairs needed and any damage to school property to principal

Bus Substitute

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old with six(6) months of driving experience
- Must possess and maintain a current North Carolina commercial driver’s license with proper endorsements and a current Bus Driver’s Pocket Card
- Must pass DOT drug and alcohol testing
- Must never have been convicted of a DWI offense
- Possession of a health examination issued by the local county board of health or a recognized medical authority
Essential Job Functions:
- Arrives on time
- Maintains proficiency in driving skills
- Ensures safety and care of students boarding, riding, and departing school bus
- Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times
- Discharges students only at the authorized school or bus stop locations
- Transports only authorized students
- Reports infractions of school bus safety rules to the principal or designee
- Obeys all traffic laws and school bus regulations while operating the school bus
- Operates the school bus on the assigned routes and schedule as provided by the Transportation Office
- When working on a school bus equipped with a wheelchair lift, is knowledgeable of lift operation used for loading and unloading of wheelchairs and also ensures that the wheelchair is properly secured on the school bus
- Accepts responsibility for securing the school bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route
- Accepts responsibility for reporting observable mechanical defects or failures on the school bus
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
