Accounting Manager — San Diego
Compensation: $110,000–$120,000 base salary, commensurate with experience. Discretionary annual bonus based on company and individual performance. Health benefits, 401k match and PTO included.

ABOUT US
We're a well-established San Diego company operating a fleet of approximately 40 food trucks and a full-service commissary that supports our trucks and independent operators across the region. With 100 years in business and a small, tight-knit team, we're hiring our next Accounting Manager as our long-tenured accountant retires after two decades with the company. This is a high-trust, high-ownership role with direct exposure to ownership and broad responsibility across the business.
THE ROLE
You'll own day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a small team (A/P, A/R, and Payroll). You'll work directly with ownership and our external CPA, and you'll be the primary internal point of contact for our auditors, insurers, and tax authorities. The right candidate is hands-on, organized, and comfortable owning their function without heavy oversight.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage core accounting operations: journal entries, account reconciliations, monthly close, and financial statement preparation
- Prepare and submit year-end schedules to our external CPA
- Handle state and federal tax payments, sales tax returns, Business Property Statements, and Secretary of State filings
- Oversee cash management: Positive Pay, ACH payments, bank reconciliations
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
- Support the Sales team in reviewing and processing monthly commission payments
- Maintain DMV registrations, Motor Carrier Permit, and Health Permits across the fleet
- Manage insurance matters: accident reports, auto and G/L records, audit support for G/L and workers' comp; serve as primary contact for external audits and policy renewals
- Coordinate and cost physical inventory
- Supervise A/P, A/R, and Payroll staff
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or in a comparable senior accounting role
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with an accounting emphasis
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions
- Advanced Excel skills; strong working knowledge of MS Office
- Demonstrated experience supervising accounting staff
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; high attention to detail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in fleet, food service, retail, or multi-unit operations
- Familiarity with California sales tax, DMV, and CDPH/county health permit processes
- Prior experience as the primary internal contact for external CPAs, auditors, and insurance carriers
