Role Description The Heavy Equipment Operator – Blades & Hoes is a full-time, on-site role based in Cheyenne, WY. This role is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment such as graders, bulldozers, backhoes, and similar machinery to support excavation, grading, and site preparation for residential construction projects. Day-to-day tasks include reading site plans, positioning and maneuvering equipment, inspecting work areas, and coordinating with site supervisors and crew members to complete assigned work on schedule. The operator will perform routine equipment checks, report mechanical issues, and assist with basic maintenance to ensure equipment readiness and longevity. The role also involves following all safety protocols, maintaining clean work areas, and contributing to efficient, high-quality construction practices on each project site.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment, including blades and hoes, with strong Equipment Operation and Heavy Equipment skills.
- Experience in Excavation work, including grading, trenching, and site preparation for residential construction.
- Knowledge of Equipment Maintenance practices for both new and Used Equipment, including routine inspections and minor repairs.
- Understanding of job site safety standards and regulations, with the ability to follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings, site plans, and grade stakes.
- Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, and ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew.
- Reliable transportation to the Cheyenne, WY job site and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Previous experience as a heavy equipment operator in residential or commercial construction; relevant certifications or licenses are preferred.
