Manager, Government Relations
Monument Advocacy is seeking candidates for a Manager, Government Relations position based in our firm’s downtown Washington, DC office. Monument is a fast growing, nationally recognized consulting firm, focused on strategic communications, public affairs and government relations. We maintain groundbreaking practices and represent industry leaders in a broad range of sectors.
The Manager, Government Relations reports directly to the Food & Ag practice lead. This position will support the growing Monument team in a variety of assignments and with a focus on our agriculture and food practice. The incumbent serves important roles on client teams focused on the food and beverage industry, conservation portfolio, and agriculture financial services.
Responsibilities
- Providing administrative support such as scheduling for practice area teams, calendaring Congressional hearings and votes;
- Attending and analyzing Congressional hearings and Committee markups, monitoring proceedings on the Senate and House floors, and attending public policy events;
- Legislative and policy research and writing;
- Assisting with client fly-ins, including scheduling, leading advocacy groups on the Hill and corresponding with external offices and stakeholders;
- Manage and organize the practice area’s events (i.e., networking happy hours, lunch and learns, etc.);
- Preparing teams for weekly status and strategy meetings;
- Tracking assignments and outcomes for clients, and ensuring requested information is submitted to clients;
- Serving as a liaison as needed between firm and clients to ensure a timely performance of deliverables;
- Editing first drafts of LDA (LD-1 and LD-2) reports;
- Monitoring major news sources (BGov, Politico, Washington Post, The Hill, Agri-Pulse) for stories, opinion pieces, etc. to send to clients if they have indicated a desire for these updates; and
- Closely monitoring policy developments that are relevant to clients; and
- Build and maintain working relationships with Hill and Administration staff and industry peers.
Qualifications
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail;
- Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly in a changing environment with shifting priorities;
- Exemplary (clear, concise) writing and editing skills with high proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet use;
- Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving;
- Experience managing and prioritizing a busy calendar;
- Experience scheduling travel and using the appropriate technology;
- Possess a stellar work ethic and excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Discretion and maturity in handling confidential matters;
- Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree plus relevant experience;
- Proficiency in AI products (OpenAI, Anthropic);
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; and
- Similar experience or internships with at least 1-3 years’ in related fields, such as on the Hill, or with other consulting firms, trade associations, NGOs or campaigns.
Compensation & Benefits
This role offers a base salary range of $50,000 to $60,000 with the opportunity for additional performance-based and new-business bonuses. The specific salary offered will depend on various factors, but not limited to, such as: education, experience, skills, qualifications, and seniority. Compensation at Monument extends beyond base pay and is designed to be holistic and competitive.
