What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Special Education Aide/Paraprofessional position at Monticello Academy?
Monticello Academy is a rigorous K-8 charter school in West Valley City looking for outstanding candidates to join our team as Special Education Aides/Teacher Aides to support our special education students and 1st grade team (primarily).
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and be willing/able to pass a background check.
- This is a position that has a maximum of 29 hours per week and no benefits
Expectations for Special Education Aides:
- Provides instructional support in collaboration with the special education teacher/classroom teacher;
- Assists the teacher with student behavior management;
- Provides instruction to students, under direction of the teacher;
- Assists the teacher with clerical duties;
- Accompanies students to mainstream classes, supervising and assisting during class and times between classes;
- Assists students with feeding, personal hygiene, etc. Can require the lifting, positioning and carrying of students;
- Assists in planning and supervising field trips and other off-campus activities;
- Track student progress;
- Collect student behavioral data;
- Consistently follow the behavior system and the classroom management program;
- Tutor students in small groups with basic reading and math skills;
- Maintain positive working relationships with students and staff;
- Maintain confidentiality;
- Support with school supervision during morning/afternoon carpool, lunch times or other areas as needed
- Occasionally substitute teach
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Associate Degree, 48 semester hours of college credit OR must have passed the Para-Pro Test or be willing to take and pass the Para-Pro Test immediately upon hire;
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to follow the directions outline by the special education teacher and related service professionals for instructional practice, behavioral interventions, and functional skills development.
- Skilled in the operation of specific achievement testing and data collection.
- Ability to effectively manage stress.
- Ability to complete training as required (CPR, MANDT, etc)
