Overview

Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) is seeking a qualified SENIOR PROJECT ACCOUNTANT to join our growing team. As a key member of the Finance & Accounting Department, the Senior Project Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of development projects, ensuring accurate and timely processing of construction draws, maintaining comprehensive accounting records, and supporting financial reporting, audits, and project cost management. This position requires strong analytical skills, construction and project accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Duties

1. Construction/Development Draw Administration:

  • Review and analyze draw requests to ensure accuracy and compliance with project budgets, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, lenders, and other stakeholders to obtain required supporting documentation and approvals.
  • Prepare and submit draw packages to lenders or funding sources in accordance with established timelines.
  • Track draw activity and ensure timely funding and disbursement of project costs.
  • Maintain organized documentation related to construction draws, contracts, project expenditures, and payment approvals.

2. Project Accounting and Financial Reporting:

  • Conduct financial analysis of development projects, including cost tracking, budget monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to reconcile project budgets, expenditure, and accounting records.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and other regulatory reporting requirements related to construction projects.

3. Compliance and Audit Support:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies throughout the draw process.
  • Prepare annual audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with cost certification requirements and related reporting.

4. Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including lenders, contractors, and internal teams, to resolve issues and address concerns related to construction draws.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to develop and strengthen accounting procedures, improve efficiency, and enhance financial controls.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams regarding financial matters and draw procedures.

Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in project accounting, affordable housing, nonprofit accounting, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, MRI, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with data analysis and business intelligence tools, including PowerBI, preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to accuracy, accountability, and continuous process improvement.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year

Salary : $85,000 - $105,000
