Embark on a journey with the MC-SPCA! We are looking for an executive director to run our BRAND NEW SHELTER! In June, 2023, we will be opening a state of the art facility. We need a dynamic individual, with extensive fundraising experience, animal welfare experience, management experience, and someone who is comfortable speaking to the community, donors, governmental officials and the press about our shelter. You’ll run the shelter, oversee the management and employees, and help us grow. We’d love to have a full-time employee to start, but realize there are some amazing individuals who may be looking for more of a part time schedule. We’d consider it for the right candidate. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – FULL-TIME or PART-TIME

The Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (MCSPCA), located in Amsterdam, NY, provides shelter, comfort and care for stray, abandoned and surrendered pets. Our mission is to provide protection, care and shelter to homeless, abused and neglected animals; and to promote public awareness about spaying and neutering, as well as proper pet care.

Responsibilities:

Personnel Management

· Oversee all employees and volunteers including hiring, scheduling, conducting performance evaluations, promotions and terminations.

· Maintain the operation manual and employee handbook.

· Oversee shelter programs with other community organizations.

Shelter Operations

· Ensure high-quality animal care.

· Oversee and participate in intake, medical care, behavioral enrichment and adoption services, including the SNAP low-cost spay/neuter program and the selection of animals for euthanasia.

· Ensure exceptional customer service.

· Work with the Animal Care Manager regarding animal health issues, animal transport and euthanasia.

· Manage effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, measuring successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, staff, donors and other constituents.

· Supervise the shelter’s veterinarians and maintain strong relationships with other local vets.

· Oversee maintenance of the facilities and property.

· Oversee ordering of supplies and manage retail inventory.

· Rotate through the reception desk and other duties as needed to maintain effective operations.

· Attend continuing education programs on shelter management and animal welfare.

Financial Management

· Manage and record cash receipts, cash disbursements, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

· Prepare employee payroll information and forward to the accountant.

· Work with the Board’s Finance Committee in the preparation of the annual operating budget for submission to the Board of Directors for its consideration and approval.

· Develop, update, recommend pricing and oversee the municipal contracts and foster relationships with the County and surrounding municipalities.

Board of Directors Liaison

· Prepare reports for monthly Board Meetings, including information on shelter intake and adoptions.

· Develop the annual report in cooperation with the accountant and the Board of Directors.

· Work with the Board of Directors to develop new programs.

Fundraising and Pet Adoption Events

· Build and maintain relationships with funders and donors.

· Research and write grants and manage donor appeals.

· Plan and coordinate shelter fundraising efforts to meet goal of $100,000 raised per year.

· Develop and assist the Board of Directors and community events.

· Oversee the donor database and ensure donors are sent a receipt and/or thank you as appropriate.

Community Outreach and Public Relations

· Develop and manage community outreach initiatives, marketing and public relations.

· Create and distribute the monthly newsletter.

· Manage and expand educational and volunteer programs.

· Foster good relationships with local veterinarians and animal-related businesses, as well as local newspapers and other community organizations.

· Manage online marketing including social media, E-mail distribution, and the shelter website.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

· Ability to be flexible and able to adapt to immediate or unforeseen challenges.

· Microsoft office experience preferred; Quickbooks experience

· Demonstrated proficiency across multiple social media platforms.

· Certified Animal Welfare Administrator Certification preferred.

· Ability to interpret statutes and regulations and assess the implications on the organization’s operations.
