Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required (must be willing to obtain the PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate within one year)
- Associates degree or higher OR completion of two (2) years of post-secondary education OR 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university; Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Background in special education/RBT preferred
- Must be knowledgeable and experienced in taking student data; experience utilizing direct-instruction programs, and experience using online learning systems.
- Must appropriately handle confidential information, enjoy working with students with disabilities, establish and maintain a rapport with students, and able to understand the needs and feelings of students.
- Visual acuity to read whiteboard, student work, and printed materials.
- Auditory acuity to hear spoken word, ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, be courteous and able to deal effectively with people, able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to cope with needs and behavior patterns of children, able to withstand emotional stress, must have a warm, friendly, helpful personality.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions, ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, ability to read, write, and do simple computation.
- Ability to complete CPI/Safety Cares training.
- Ability to work independently, make work-related decisions, and exercise good judgement with student interaction.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
- Instructional Support
- Assist teachers in implementing daily lessons and instructional activities
- Provide small-group and individual academic support
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and assignments
- Support online learning and direct-instruction programs
- Behavior and Classroom Management
- Support classroom routines and expectations
- Utilize strategies for behavior within behavior support plans
- Assist with de-escalation and redirection strategies
- Data Collection and Documentation
- Collect academic and behavioral data
- Assist with record keeping and progress monitoring as directed by the classroom teacher
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
- Student Support and Supervision
- Provide 1:1 or small-group support
- Assist with organization and transitions
- Support academic, social, and life skills
- Collaboration
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Attend meetings and trainings as directed
