Director of Athletics

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors’ Degree in education or related field
  2. Kentucky Certificate with proper endorsements preferred
  3. Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  4. Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching, coaching, and/or athletic director experience preferred.

 

REPORTS: Principal and Superintendent/Designee

 

SUPERVISES: Personnel as assigned.

 

JOB GOAL: To coordinate the schools’ interscholastic athletic and intramural programs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as both high school and district athletic director
  2. Provides leadership to the athletic department. Advocate for the proper place of athletics in the overall educational process.
  3. Encourages and advocates for the overall improvement in all athletic programs
  4. Organizes and administers, with the High School and Middle School Principals and district leadership, plans for the overall program of extracurricular athletics and activities, which includes transportation, fund raising, ticket sales, practices and schedules.
  5. Fosters good school/community relations by seeking support for programs, publicizing events, activities and meeting with school and community organizations.
  6. Communicates and collaborates with other athletic directors and athletic personnel. Assists with interviewing, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of middle and high school athletic coaches.
  7. Facilitate middle and high school athletic directors’ meetings to ensure continuity of program, communication, and coordination of events.
  8. Collaborate with community Parks and Recreation programs and other youth programs to ensure support for athletic opportunities throughout the community.
  9.  Coordinate and develop in-district professional development programs for district coaches
  10. Develop and maintain a sound working relationship/partnership with community organizations and media supporting teams and individual student-athletes.
  11. Responsible for the organization of athletic events and coordination of a district master schedule of all athletic events and events using athletic facilities.
  12. Collaborate with and assist building principals, athletic directors, and assistant athletic directors in the supervision of athletic events.
  13. Assist schools in the evaluation of their athletic programs.
  14. Oversee and approve school athletic funding expenditures and works with coaches, principals, and Director of Finance in the development of athletic budgets.
  15. Collaborates and assists custodial and maintenance departments with upkeep and upgrades to facilities.
  16. Maintains and prepares reports, reports, records, documents, budgets and other paperwork as required by the Principal or Superintendent.
  17. Submits work orders for facility needs.
  18. Supervises events as needed.
  19. Assists with reviewing complaints and concerns about activities with administration.
  20. Monitors the eligibility criteria of schools, district, conference, KHSAA and other member organizations.
  21. Strictly adheres to all laws, policies and procedures for revenue and expenses for School Activity Accounts and other money.  
  22. Administers the insurance program for school activities and athletics, and ensures processing of claims.
  23. Provides leadership for booster and support organizations, and keeps school administration abreast of organizations activities.
  24. Assist with the collection of financial information for booster clubs.
  25. Facilitates and ensures that all coaches (certified, classified, volunteer, etc.) are trained and current in all required trainings and certifications (KHSAA, CPR, AED, First Aid, EAP, etc.) and maintains required documentation of compliance.
  26. Assumes general responsibility for the supervision of participants immediately before, during and after practices and competitions and/or games as well as during travel to and from events.
  27. Coordinates with school administrators for coaching and program evaluations.
  28. Monitors athletic program for compliance with Title IX regulations, conference and district policies, KHSAA regulations and law.
  29. Works cooperatively with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and serves as a liaison between district member schools and KHSAA.
  30. Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations of KHSAA as well as appropriate KRS and KAR.
  31. Investigates all allegations of infractions and makes recommendations for appropriate resolutions or corrective action.
  32. Administers Board policies/procedures related to athletics including the random drug testing policy for student athletics.
  33. Maintains professional conduct and serves as role model when representing the district during school functions and activities.
  34. Obtains, reviews and preserves as district record, written certificates of physical examination for each student seeking to participate in the school’s athletic program.
  35. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.

TERM OF SERVICE: Salary and workdays to be established by the Board. 

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
