Who We Are Looking For

Montgomery County Public Health Dental Program provides essential oral health services to residents, focusing on improving dental health and preventing oral diseases.The program provides dental services, oral education, and outreach initiatives through collaborations with community partners targeting low-income and underserved populations. We aim to enhance community health strategies and ensure access to dental care, ultimately fostering better overall health outcomes for the county residents in need.

What You'll Be Doing

The Principal Administrative Aide plays a vital role within the county public health department. Their responsibilities and purpose contribute significantly to the overall efficiency, accessibility, and quality of oral healthcare services a patient may receive. Often, they are the first-person patients interact with, thus shaping their initial impression of the dental practice or clinic. This position will be entrusted to handle sensitive patient information in accordance with legal and ethical standards, while maintaining trust and confidentiality. This position is expected to create positive patient experiences by providing friendly, professional, empathetic communication and facilitate valuable collaborations with community partners. Overall, the work supports broader public health objectives such as reducing oral health disparities, assisting patients in accessing dental care, and improving overall community health.

Duties And Core Responsibilities Include The Following

  • Providing phone and visitor reception for a dental clinic; includes but is not limited to patient registration, program eligibility verification, appointment scheduling and confirmation, checking voicemails
  • Processing administrative transactions, including fee collections; including but not limited to processing payments, arithmetic computations, and assisting patients with financial assistance applications
  • Maintaining and operating electronic health record software; ability to upload/download/scan into the system
  • Performing general office inventory; maintain office supplies and equipment
  • Providing community outreach: arranging meetings with community partners, preparing materials for distribution, arranging logistical support with business contacts concerning program operations, communicating with clients and collaborative partners regarding sensitive client/case-specific to obtain/verify/provide facts and exchange other types of routine or non-information, driving to/from various worksites throughout the county
  • Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State

of Maryland.

Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible office support experience.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class “C” (equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.

Qualifications

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:

  • Experience working in a dental or healthcare reception environment
  • Experience working in public health or community outreach settings
  • Familiar with or have experience with appointment scheduling software and record management systems in a healthcare setting
  • Experience arranging and organizing healthcare events and/or projects with team members inside and outside of your organization
  • Experience communicating and coordinating services in-person, on the phone or by email with collaborative and business partners outside of your organization?
  • Multilingual skills, preferably in Spanish

Preferred Interview Criteria

Interview selection will be based on the following interview preference criteria:

  • Experience working in a dental or medical setting
  • Customer service experience with substantial verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working in diverse populations, including vulnerable or underserved groups
  • Flexibility and adaptability in working at various worksites/locations.
  • Multilingual Basic communication skills
