Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency with a mission to provide high quality, diverse, and accessible community-based programs, activities, and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation.

What You'll Be Doing
Duties will include:
Greeting and Assisting Patrons: Welcome patrons warmly, answer questions, and provide information about facility offerings, schedules, and policies.
Processing Payments: Handle cash, credit card transactions, and other payment methods accurately for services, memberships, and classes, ensuring secure and efficient transactions.
Membership and Program Registration: Assist patrons with signing up for memberships, swim classes, and other programs, including completing necessary forms and verifying eligibility.
Maintaining a Clean and Welcoming Environment: Keep the front desk area organized and inviting, ensuring that promotional materials and signage are up-to-date and accessible.
Handling Inquiries and Resolving Issues: Address customer inquiries or complaints with patience and professionalism, escalating issues to supervisors as needed.
Communicating Facility Policies: Clearly explain policies on safety, health protocols, and facility usage to patrons from diverse backgrounds, adapting communication to ensure understanding.
Promoting Programs and Services: Inform patrons about upcoming events, new programs, and promotions that may be of interest, helping to increase community engagement.
Maintaining Records and Reports: Document transactions, attendance, and any incidents at the front desk to support facility operations and customer service quality.
Successful candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for 30 minutes or more.
Knowledge of and ability to apply fundamentals of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, arithmetic and standard office practices and procedures.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public.
This position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the program schedule.
Selected candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check and drug screening prior to hire.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Six hundred (600) hours of relevant work experience as a leader or instructor in one or more specialized recreation activities.
Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Aquatics positions require the Medical History Review with a Drug/Alcohol screen.
