Job Description

Montgomery College seeks a full-time Coordinator of Interpreting Services and ADA Accommodations in the Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM). This position, which reports to the manager that oversees employee ADA accommodations and services and leave administration, is responsible for coordinating communication access services for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing employees and supporting workplace accommodation efforts that promote accessibility, equity, and inclusion.

This is a full-time, non-bargaining, exempt, Grade 29 position. A typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend flex hours. The primary work location is the College’s Central Services Office in Rockville, MD. The position is eligible for telework up to two (2) days per week based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities (included but not limited to):

Communication Access Services

  • Coordinate interpreting, captioning, cued speech, and other communication access services for employees with approved accommodations and review accommodation requests and determine appropriate services in compliance with ADA, Section 504, and College policies.
  • Schedule and manage interpreters, captionists, and service providers, including substitutions, cancellations, emergency coverage, and urgent requests.
  • Collaborate with employees, departments, technology teams, and external providers to ensure effective service delivery and serve as a resource on communication access services, accommodation implementation, and interpreting best practices.
  • Oversee communication access technology, assistive equipment, and Video Relay Service (VRS) operations and exercise independent judgment in prioritizing needs, resolving scheduling conflicts, and allocating resources.

Program Administration

  • Recruit, train, schedule, coach, supervise, and evaluate interpreters, captionists, and contracted providers.
  • Review timesheets, invoices, budgets, and service utilization data while maintaining accurate records.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service quality monitoring.
  • Design, develop, and deliver training on sign language interpreting and accommodation services and best practices.
  • Develop procedures, administrative reports, and other operational resources.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 504, College policies, and professional standards.
  • Track service demand, utilization trends, and resource allocation to support operational planning and maintain professional networks and stay current on best practices and industry trends.

HRSTM ADA Support

  • Assist with intake, tracking, and coordination of workplace accommodation requests beyond communication access services and maintain records, reports, documentation, and related administrative processes.
  • Monitor service demand and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality. Support development of procedures, training, and resources related to accessibility and accommodations.
  • Maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and foster an inclusive, collaborative work environment and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, disability services, interpreting services administration, human services, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Training in sign language studies, linguistics, interpreting, Deaf studies, or a related area.
  • Five (5) years of experience coordinating ASL interpreting, captioning, or other communication access services.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
  • Knowledge of the ADA, Section 504, accessibility requirements, Deaf culture, interpreting ethics, and communication access best practices.
  • Experience evaluating interpreter qualifications and managing service providers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, scheduling systems, virtual meeting platforms, and communication access technologies.

Hiring Range: Initial salary placement for new hires typically falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($74,267 - $96,558), annually and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $118,850 annually.
