CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER/ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  1. Possession of Kentucky Superintendent certification;
  2. A minimum of five years of successful experience as district/building level administrator in raising student achievement;
  1. Knowledge and expertise in current educational research findings and recent trends in education;
  2. Knowledge and proven expertise in assessment literacy, balanced assessment, and Classroom Assessment for Student Learning;
  3. Proven ability to communicate knowledge effectively to others;
  4. Proven ability to develop administrators and certified and classified staff professionally through effective professional development and coaching strategies;
  5. Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, parents, families, and community partners.
  6. Proven ability in organizational management including planning and evaluation strategies.
  7. Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS:                Superintendent

 

SUPERVISES:           School administrators, teaching staff (including paraprofessionals), other professional staff, curriculum directors, consultants, Special Education, student services, and other resource and service personnel.

 

JOB GOAL:               To provide leadership in the management of the assigned programs to as great advantage as possible to benefit the educational excellence of the district’s programs, facilities, and personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee, monitor, and evaluate the development and implementation of curricula that is rigorous, intentional, vertically aligned, and congruent to state and local standards.
  • Ensure the vertical alignment of curricula Pre-K through high school.
  • Ensure the integration of services, strategies, instruction, and resources to ensure at least one year’s worth of growth for all students (special education, ESL, gifted and talented, remediation, extensions, etc.).
  • Ensure collaboration between administrators and certified and classified staff in order to provide continuous, rigorous curricula across the district.
  • Ensure opportunities for teachers to collaborate with teachers from other schools in order to share their expertise in teaching, resources, and instructional strategies.
  • Ensure high expectations for student learning across the district through the use of learning walks, common assessments, and structures for success.
  • Ensure the effective implementation and use of a balanced assessment system throughout the district.
  • Ensure that student engagement strategies are used consistently and effectively throughout the district.
  • Ensure the strength of programs and opportunities offered through community and adult education.
  1. Oversee, monitor, and evaluate the use and implementation of local, state, and federal funds to support teaching and learning.
  • Ensure the allocation of human and fiscal resources so that they effectively support improved student achievement.
  • Ensure integration and support, as possible per legal guidelines, between local, state, and federal funds with a focus on improved teaching and student learning.

 

  1. Oversee, design, monitor, and evaluate the collaboration between all stakeholders in the educational process (administrators, certified and classified staff, students, families, and community) in order to remove barriers to learning.
  • Ensure frequent, clear, and current communication to and between all stakeholders.
  • Ensure communication on district and school level celebrations to the community through multiple modes.
  • Ensure strong, positive public and community relations programs pertaining to instructional program functions and activities.
  • Ensure multiple and varied opportunities for feedback from stakeholders in the district improvement process.
  • Ensure the district collaborates with community partners to remove barriers that prevent all students from learning.
  1. Oversee, design, monitor, and evaluate intentional structures to promote instructional leadership within administrators, teachers, and staff throughout the district.
  • Ensure high expectations and rigorous evaluation and support for all administrators, certified and classified staff.
  • Ensure high quality, professional development aligned with district goals.
  • Ensure a certified evaluation process that is collaborative and includes meaningful, continuous professional growth plans for administrators and teachers that are focused on district, school, and personal goals in addition to improve student learning.
  • Ensure district leadership meetings and principal meetings are focused on improving instructional leadership and student achievement.
  • Ensure high quality SBDM Council training.
  1. Oversee, monitor, and evaluate the district improvement planning process.
  • Ensure an open, transparent, collaborative process to engage all stakeholders in the district improvement plan process.
  • Ensure that areas of growth are addressed and improved upon.
  • Ensure that district resources and individual schools are working toward achieving district level goals.
  1. Serves as Superintendent when Superintendent is out of district or otherwise unavailable or as designated
  2. Other duties as assigned by Superintendent.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strictly adheres to the Kentucky Certified Code of Ethics (704 KAR 20:680)
  • Must be able to be meet and maintain all requirements to become and maintain status of bonded employee
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, written language, and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light objects and students up to 25 lbs.
