What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher / Floater position at Montessori School of Pawleys Island?
We are seeking a flexible and caring Substitute/Floater to support our Montessori classrooms (ages 6 weeks – 6 years old) and aftercare program during the summer months.
This role helps maintain a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment in line with Montessori principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist lead teachers with classroom and outdoor activities.
- Engage respectfully with children during play and learning.
- Support toileting, hand washing, snack prep, and clean-up.
- Supervise children during class, outdoor play, and nap time.
- Help with transitions between school and aftercare programs.
- Maintain classroom organization and assist with end-of-day duties.
- Communicate effectively with staff and parents while maintaining confidentiality.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and follow school policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience in childcare preferred.
- Interest in Montessori education.
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain).
- Must pass background/fingerprint check and meet health requirements.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks related to childcare.
Schedule: Flexible, based on school needs. School operating hours are Monday-Friday 7:45 am - 5:30 pm.
