Montessori International Children’s House (MICH) is an AMI accredited school serving children from 18 months through age 12 that has created an idyllic setting for young learners in its 40-year history. Situated on a verdant, wooded campus, and with a highly dedicated faculty and staff, the school community has a clear sense of purpose: to provide the best, age-appropriate education for young learners, following the philosophy of Maria Montessori.
Position Summary
The Montessori Elementary Associate Teacher works closely with the Lead Elementary Montessori Teacher to support the creation and maintenance of a peaceful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. In addition to assisting with classroom routines and instructional support, the Associate Teacher contributes to student observation, family communication, and school-wide record keeping.
This position is part of a professional development track designed for individuals interested in becoming AMI-certified Montessori educators. The Associate Teacher will work alongside an experienced Lead Teacher while preparing to attend AMI Elementary Montessori training within 1–2 years. The school will provide mentorship and financial support, with the goal of transitioning the Associate Teacher into a Lead Teacher role following certification and availability of a lead position.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Preparation of the Environment
- Perform care and maintenance of the environment including but not limited to creating and repairing materials, cleaning the environment, including a thorough dusting each week, replenishing supplies, preparing and supervising snacks, laundry, keeping everything tidy and in good condition
- Arrive promptly at the specified time to prepare the environment for the day
- Help prepare and oversee snacks and other food preparation, manage classroom laundry, and support general organization
Supporting and Collaborating with the Lead Montessori Teacher
- Follow the guidance of the Lead Guide and help establish a calm, respectful, and focused classroom culture
- Support students during work periods, including redirecting as needed and offering help with academic and practical life activities
- Provide small-group or one-on-one support in literacy and foundational academic skills, reinforcing lessons introduced by the Lead Guide
- Assist with transitions such as lunch, recess, and dismissal
- Observe student behavior and academic engagement and share insights with the Lead Guide and Educational Director
- Be a model to students of integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all persons.
Record Keeping & Communication
- Maintain observation notes and contribute to classroom record-keeping systems
- Assist in preparing documentation for family conferences and progress reports
- Participate in and support parent communication under the direction of the Lead Guide
- Attend and contribute to family education events and classroom community gatherings
Professional Growth and Montessori Training Pathway
- Engage in coaching and mentorship to prepare for Montessori certification and a future Lead Guide role
- Participate in school-based professional development opportunities
- Commit to attending AMI Montessori Elementary training within a mutually agreed timeline
- Reflect on professional progress and collaborate with leadership to build a pathway toward increased classroom responsibility
Other Duties as Assigned
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor‘s degree required
- Demonstrated interest in Montessori pedagogy; experience in a Montessori environment strongly preferred
- Desire and capacity to pursue AMI Elementary Montessori certification within 1–2 years (with tuition assistance available)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build warm, professional relationships with children, colleagues, and families
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful community building
- Ability to take initiative, reflect on practice, and receive and incorporate feedback
- Meet all Office of Child Care and school health/safety background check requirements

Salary : $52,000 - $55,000
