Duties
- Assist lead teachers in implementing curriculum plans aligned with early childhood education standards, including literacy, math, and social-emotional development.
- Support students with disabilities by providing physical assistance, behavioral management strategies, and classroom support tailored to individual needs.
- Help facilitate communication using methods such as American Sign Language (ASL) and other augmentative communication tools to promote effective interaction among students.
- Manage classroom behavior through positive reinforcement techniques, behavior management strategies, and consistent routines to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Collaborate with other professionals—such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and special educators—to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Support students’ social skills development by encouraging participation in group activities and fostering inclusive interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information while documenting progress, behavior incidents, and lesson outcomes accurately and professionally.
Experience
- Prior experience working with children in early childhood or preschool settings, preferably within private or special education environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of childhood development principles, classroom management techniques, and curriculum development for young learners.
- Experience supporting students with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders through tailored instructional strategies.
- Familiarity with behavior management for students with behavioral disorders or special needs, including de-escalation techniques.
- Proficiency in using basic math skills for instructional support and data collection related to student progress.
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal skills and American Sign Language; strong writing skills are also essential for documentation purposes.
- Knowledge of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) regulations related to equitable access to quality education for all students.
