Community Engagement Director

Hours: 40 hours / week, exempt

Reports to: Deputy Director

Salary: $70,000 to $90,000/year

About the Agency

The Monterey County Rape Crisis Center (MCRCC) is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to provide ongoing advocacy, support and healing for all victims and survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse; and to prevent sexual violence in our community through education.

Overview

The Community Engagement Director is a member of the high-functioning Community Engagement Team. The objectives of the Community Engagement Team are threefold: 1.) increase awareness about sexual violence and MCRCC’s services (i.e. inform the community about the prevalence and impact of sexual assault, human trafficking, and child abuse and about MCRCC’s services); 2.) increase financial support for MCRCC ( i.e. fundraise); and 3.) increase organizational capacity through training and the dissemination of resources and information to enhance MCRCC’s ability to engage the Monterey County Community. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Engagement Director collaborates with other members of the Community Engagement Team, as well as the Counseling, Crisis Intervention and Prevention Education Teams to support the work of the agency and to keep informed of all agency programs and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop objectives and plan all activities related to outreach to the public in collaboration with the Community Engagement Team and the Executive and Deputy Directors
  • Direct and support the work of the Community Engagement Team
  • Assess public information and service needs of the community
  • Assist in all aspects of public information and community relations efforts
  • Develop education/public information programs to educate the community on MCRCC services. Target audiences include civic clubs and organizations, health fairs, employers, social service organizations, church groups, etc.
  • Develop and coordinate Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month (April) activities
  • Produce and edit monthly newsletters for the general public
  • Produce flyers, press releases, and PSAs to promote services, educational programs and special events
  • Oversee social media postings, ensuring that they appropriately reflect the agency’s mission
  • Maintain and update list of media contacts
  • Develop and distribute promotional brochures, flyers, etc.
  • Review, acquire, and/or create public information/education materials for tablings and events
  • Develop objectives and plan all activities related to organizational fundraising in collaboration with the Community Engagement Team and the Executive and Deputy Directors
  • Organize capital campaign strategy and execution, setting communication and funding goals
  • Act as the point person for planning and executing events, keeping track of revenue, and coordinating volunteers and interns
  • Generate email lists to contact vendors and volunteers for nonprofit events and news, and then process and track expenses related to events
  • Develop marketing materials and plan events to generate funding
  • Coordinate identification and relationship building with key donors and groups
  • Maintain records of all charitable gifts by utilizing MCRCC’s donor management software Little Green Light
  • Coordinate donor acknowledgement with participation of Deputy/Executive Director
  • Stay informed of news, trends, research, articles, and new practices in the fields of sexual violence, prevention education, social and racial justice
  • Seek input and suggestions from MCRCC staff, volunteers, and board members regarding capacity-building opportunities the organization is most interested in
  • Develop objectives and plan all activities related to organizational capacity building in collaboration with the Community Engagement Team and the Executive and Deputy Directors; including weekly staff meetings
  • Attend meetings, conferences, agency functions, fundraisers, events, and other job-related events as required;
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • Provide direct client services including phone and in-person peer counseling, accompaniment, advocacy, and support;
  • Document all client contact, advocacy, and any other important information in MCRCC’s client management software;
  • Perform agency and program administrative and operational tasks, as needed;
  • Assist with translation of agency materials (e.g. website, flyers, brochures, etc.)
  • Assist with advocate trainings, board and staff training, fundraising events and monthly advocate meetings
  • Assist with SART coordination, provide guidance to volunteer advocates, and be available for accompaniment to Sexual Assault Forensic Exams as the staff back-up when needed
  • Report regularly to the Executive Director/Deputy Director and otherwise to insure that s/he is fully informed of all program activities
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Deputy Director

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills to manage volunteers and successfully run events
  • Strong organization skills
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience in Communications, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Social Work or related field
  • Must have completed or be willing to complete 47hr California State Sexual Assault Counselor certification (Training will be provided)
  • Bilingual, bicultural and bi-literate skills are preferred
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Ability to effectively present sensitive topic materials to a wide range of audiences
  • Understanding of child abuse and sexual assault, and commitment to ending sexual violence
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to establish rapport with diverse audiences, and be sensitive to diverse cultural groups
  • Familiarity with Monterey County and community resources
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to use relevant technology
  • Willing to work flexible hours including some evenings, early mornings and weekends as needed
  • Willing to travel to outreach events
  • Willing to serve as a staff backup resource person after hours for advocates as needed on a rotational basis
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, climb stairs, and sit for the duration of SART/CART exams (4 hours)
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and carry vehicle insurance
