Job Summary

Under direction, through individual and group instruction, assists pupils to fulfill their capacities for mental, physical, emotional and social growth; uses teaching techniques appropriate to stimulate their abilities and interests; uses specialized materials, equipment and instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of blind or low-vision pupils

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: - Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university - California Teaching Credential authorizing performance of service with programs for the visually impaired - Possess specialized techniques and skills pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in use of various technological devices and optical aids - Background and/or certification in orientation and mobility - Knowledge of technology for Braille, large print and talking software

Desirable Qualifications: - Experience working with children with visual impairments age birth through 21 years of age - Experience working with children with severe disabilities - Teaching experience in general education programs, elementary or secondary - Ability to use Sign Language - Bilingual Applicants requiring a reasonable accommodation for the interview or testing process must notify Human Resources three business days prior to an interview or testing date. Accommodations will be provided in accordance with ADA requirements. All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a CTC-approved agency to determine the equivalent U.S. degree and major, and the Foreign Transcript Evaluation must be attached to your application before your application will be considered.
