Job Summary
Provides direct care to patients and serves as a consistent care coordinator through the continuum of care, assessing the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of the patient. Directs patients to the next appropriate service and tracks their progress. In collaboration with Medical Director, assure that all hospital behavioral health patients receive appropriate evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, medical screening and medical/psychiatric evaluation whenever indicated, and that all medical/psychiatric care is appropriately documented in the medical record.
Essential Functions
- 1. Maintain current working knowledge of all local, Federal, State and other regulatory agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to assigned programs. This includes cultural and linguistic healthcare and outreach services, quality management, and quality improvement standards to insure compliance.
- 2. As needed, assist with policy changes as necessary.
- 3. Maintain compliance with Hospital Policies and Medical Staff By Laws, Rules and Regulations and all requirements for medical staff privileges.
- 4. Assist Medical Director with development of Department of Behavioral Health Service standards and oversight of compliance with standards to establish and maintain the scope of services required, meeting the needs of patients.
- 5. Assist with development of clinically relevant, evidenced based, best practices for behavioral health care.
- 6. Provide direct psychiatric services as needed.
- 7. As needed, provide supervision of clinical staff including medical staff and residents as appropriate.
- 8. Participate in the liaison relationship with private and public payers, in particular with Medical Directors or equivalent clinical leadership in payer organizations.
- 9. Actively participate in the system’s ongoing quality assurance and audit processes.
- 10. Participate in the development of a clinically relevant, outcome evaluation process as needed.
- 11. Liaison and collaborate with community physicians, hospital staff and other professional agencies with regard to psychiatric services. Assist in the assessment of community needs to determine program and service priorities.
- 12. Timely and quality completion of all required documentation necessary for regulatory and financial purposes. 13. Responsible to assure coverage in your absence via working with Medical Director to appoint another MD.
Qualifications
- MD Required
- 1-3 years Work experience seeing psychiatric patients in a hospital setting or outpatient clinic Preferred
- Excellent Interpersonal skills and documenting in the EMR system; EPIC (Medium proficiency)
- Physician - New York State Board of Medicine Required
