Overview

For positions that have only a rate listed, the displayed rate is the hiring rate but could be subject to change based on shift differential, experience, education or other relevant factors.

Under the direction of radiologist, performs Special Procedure examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis and image guided treatment. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

  • Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes: a) entering patient data into RIS and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the procedure table in the correct position for the procedure to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout film for procedure. d) Appropriate positioning of monitors, foot switches, table controls and lighting for procedure to be performed.
    • Error-free data entry in computer systems. Room turnaround time of 15 minutes after completion of previous case (this also depends on other support services i.e., housekeeping). Ability to work in parallel so that nursing, medical, and technological staff are efficient. Error-free positioning of monitors, foot switches, table controls and lighting.
  • Obtain cut film and digital images: This task includes the proper setting of exposures factors and imaging equipment to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist.
    • Retake rate of less than 3 percent due to improper exposure settings, patient position or other reasons which are under the control of the technologist.
  • Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the interventional radiologist handling sterile equipment as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring exposure factors, fluoro time, etc. c) Involved with operating injector when necessary.
    • Error-free sterile technique. Constant awareness of progression of procedure.
  • Maintain adherence to imaging workflow in RIS-IC and G.E. Centricity (PACS). This includes tracking exams in RIS- IC throughout all steps in the process. Also, verifying images in PACS to ensure the patient, exam type, labeling and orientation are correct.
    • This standard is of utmost importance and must be followed diligently by the technologist performing the exam. (Error-free).
  • Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling digital images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation.
    • High-quality, error free labeling of photographic images and displaying those images in proper order.
  • Maintain all necessary records of films, fluoro time, injections, etc.
    • Error-free documentation of necessary records.
  • Observe all rules and regulations regarding patient identification and radiation safety for patients and staff.
    • Error-free observance of radiation safety procedures. Zero tolerance for misidentification and/or misadministration.
  • Train other associates and students in special procedures.
    • Knowledgeable information while training other associates and students.
  • Maintain orderliness, cleanliness of assigned area, aseptic technique as well maintain sterile field.
    • Clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform duties of a 4T technologist as needed.
    • High-quality cooperative performance.
  • Perform other related assigned tasks

Requirements

  • Licensed by the State of New York Required.
  • GED Required.
  • 1-3 years Required.
  • Special Procedure/Angiographic Systems.
  • Radiographic exposure equipment.
  • PACS - G.E. Centricity.
  • RIS-IC tracking equipment and other computer database managers.
  • ARRT Required.
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist - Injection Required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required.
  • Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in and meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT Required.
  • Licensed by the State of New York Required.
