Description

Reports to: Dean of Students

FLSA Status: Professional/Exempt, 11 Months (full-time)

Purpose

The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of students, faculty, and staff. This role includes providing direct medical care, managing the Health Station, maintaining accurate health records, and ensuring compliance with all applicable health regulations. The School Nurse serves as a key resource for health-related issues on campus and supports both day and boarding students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid care and administer medications as needed
  • Respond to all on-campus medical emergencies involving students, faculty, and staff
  • Communicate with parents/guardians following medical incidents
  • Complete and maintain injury/accident reports and health records
  • Maintain and update student health information, including vaccination records and emergency contacts
  • Manage and operate the Health Station, ensuring it is properly stocked and organized
  • Maintain emergency equipment, including AEDs and response bags
  • Monitor and comply with county and public health regulations
  • Notify families and staff of communicable illnesses and health updates
  • Inform faculty of students with significant medical conditions or allergies
  • Coordinate health-related communications and notices to the school community
  • Support boarding students by conducting daily health checks, coordinating medical appointments, and assisting with insurance claims
  • Provide on-call support for boarding-related medical concerns during evenings and weekends

Additional Duties

  • Assist with transportation of injured or ill students when needed
  • Perform health screenings and testing as required
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by Administration or the Dean of Students

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience preferred

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, staff, and external agencies
  • Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork
  • Proficiency with basic technology and data systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to operate relevant office equipment.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, and/or squat for prolonged periods of time.
  • Work outside occasionally, over multiple terrains, and in varying weather conditions, as needed.

At Will Employment

Employee understands and acknowledges that, unless otherwise defined by applicable law, any employment relationship with MVC is of an “at will” nature, which means that the Employee may resign at any time and the Employer may discharge the Employee at any time, with or without cause. It is further understood that this “at will” employment relationship may not be changed by any written document or by conduct, unless the MVC Head of School specifically acknowledges such change in writing.

Salary Description

$70K- $87K, DOE

Salary : $70,000 - $87,000
