Job description:
A private family based in Austin is looking for a dedicated full-time Private Chef to manage daily family meals in a warm, discreet, and well-organised household.
This is a live-out role for a chef who enjoys cooking high-quality home-style food rather than formal fine dining every day.
The chef will mainly prepare lunch and dinner for two adults, two very young children, and two nannies. Lunch is generally simple and practical, especially for the children, while dinner is the main meal of the day. The family is looking for a flexible chef who can create healthy, varied, and flavourful meals with a broad repertoire, so the food stays interesting across the week.
The preferred culinary style includes Asian-influenced home cooking, especially Chinese and Japanese. The family is not looking for overly formal restaurant food, but they do want very good everyday cooking, made with care, good taste, and consistency. A chef with some Asian background would be ideal, but the family is also open to a strong all-round chef who is willing to learn and adapt to their preferences over time.
This role suits a chef who is clean, organised, very flexible, and comfortable working in a private home with young children. The chef should understand how to balance simple daily cooking with the ability to elevate the food occasionally when the family has a few guests or wants something a little more special.
The expected schedule is Tuesday to Saturday, with availability for some Sundays when the family is in town. The target is around 18 working days per month, with the schedule agreed in advance. Flexibility is important, as the family travels regularly and some months may require a different rhythm, but this will be planned ahead and managed fairly.
Extra worked days will be paid in addition to the base salary.
Regular travel is not expected, but occasional travel may be requested from time to time. The role is primarily based in Austin, and trials will also take place there. The family is open to local chefs first, but they may also consider chefs from outside Texas if the fit is exceptional.
The position can be offered on a W-2 basis, with eligibility for a monthly healthcare stipend and 401(k) matching. The family is also open to considering 1099 contractor status if preferred by the chef.
This is an excellent long-term opportunity for a chef seeking a stable and respectful household, clear communication, and the chance to build a role around quality daily cooking for a family that genuinely values good food.
