What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parts Counter/Inside Sales position at Montana Valley Irrigation?
Montana Valley Irrigation is building out our Missoula location and looking for a Parts Counter / Inside Sales Representative to be a core part of that team. As the first point of contact for our producers and partners, you will help customers identify what they need, get them quoted accurately, and make sure the handoff to field and service crews goes smoothly. You will follow up on open quotes, help customers understand their options, and build relationships that bring people back.
Success in this role comes down to proactive customer service, accurate paperwork, and consistent follow-through. We are a team — our office, service, and field crews depend on each other, and this role sits in the middle of it. We are looking for someone who communicates, asks when they are unsure, and understands that the whole operation works better when people work together.
Key duties
- Customer service: Assist walk-in customers and handle inbound calls for parts, equipment, and service inquiries; provide accurate product recommendations and quotes. Create invoices for counter sales and handle payments via credit card and cash.
- Proactive sales: Research new market segments and create prospective customer contact lists. Contact new and existing customers via phone and email to drive business to our new location.
- Sales follow-through: Follow up on open quotes and orders; build relationships that keep customers coming back.
- Crew coordination: Work with service and field crews to make sure customers are updated and nothing falls through the cracks
- Records & paperwork: Maintain accurate records in our CRM — invoices, quotes, and customer info
- Inventory support: Assist with parts inventory tracking and ordering
- Billing support: Assist with basic accounts receivable tasks as needed
- Requirements
- Experience: Prior counter sales, parts, or inside sales experience preferred; background in agriculture, irrigation, construction, plumbing, or related trades is a strong plus
