The Montana WWAMI Medical Education Program invites applications for a clinical instructor who will provide leadership to the Foundations of Clinical Medicine course. This position is a 25% FTE administrative position. Applicants can concurrently apply for a 25% FTE clinical mentor role if they desire a 50% benefited position.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversight of the Foundations of Clinical Medicine curriculum
    • Attend, schedule instructors, and deliver sessions for Orientation and Clinical Immersion timeframes, typically delivered over 2-3 days in July and the first two weeks of September, respectively.
    • Attend and schedule instructors for all clinical skills workshops, equitably dividing the teaching responsibilities among the clinical faculty
    • Deliver an equitable share of teaching responsibilities
    • Maintain SharePoint site of teaching materials to be delivered at the Montana campus including adapting materials to suit local needs and capabilities
    • Work with the administrative team to maintain and update course schedule and materials in Elentra and Canvas
    • Ensure session learning objectives are met
    • Monitor student assignments
    • Monitor and distribute course specific student feedback to instructors
    • Work with Learning Specialist and College Faculty to support students in difficulty.
    • Coordinate with local interprofessional education (IPE) partners to integrate IPE activities into FCM or incorporate medical students into site-specific IPE programming
  • Work with College Head to help develop and deliver Professional Identity Formation curriculum.
  • Partner with Seattle and/or local resources to help implement the OSCE (Objective Standardized Clinical Exams)
  • Clinical skills assessment including identifying students not meeting expected milestones
  • WWAMI-wide curriculum development and quality improvement including attendance at UW Clinical Skills Work Group meetings and annual retreat
  • Assist with and deliver faculty development if needed/as requested by Foundations Dean or Clinical Dean

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • MD degree or the equivalent.
  • Completion of residency training with board eligibility.
  • Teaching experience in clinical or classroom settings.
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching the art and science of medicine.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Training or experience in medical education.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Expertise with bias, inequities, microaggressions, and social determinants of health.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
It is expected that the successful candidate be available for in-person work at least one day/week on Wednesdays during normal business hours.

The position for which you have applied MAY BE a Union position. Union affiliation is determined by job duties and the collective bargaining unit.
  • Non-Tenure Track Faculty – Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). Faculty covered by AFMSU may choose to pay membership dues. This is a condition of employment. Additional information can be found at AFMSU or by emailing AFSMU .
  • Any position less than .5 FTE is not represented by the Union and is not required to pay dues.
  • If the FTE changes during employment, the representational status of this position could be impacted.
