Loyola Sacred Heart High School Head Boys Basketball Coach Job Title: Loyola Sacred Heart Head Coach Reports To: Loyola Sacred Heart Athletic Director Prepared Date: April 11, 2025 Employment: Seasonal Part-time position Position Description A Loyola Sacred Heart (LSH) Head Coach will lead an athletic team throughout its particular season, including training sessions, practices, and competitions. The Head Coach serves as a role model who reflects the values of LSH by fostering sportsmanship, integrity, and leadership in student-athletes. The Coach is responsible for helping each athlete grow not only in athletic skill but also in character, discipline, and faith, in keeping with the school's mission to develop the whole person. A Head Coach represents the team in a variety of settings and communicates regularly with athletes, parents, school staff, and the broader community. Coaches are expected to uphold and model the Catholic identity of the school and support LSH's mission of forming young men and women who are spiritually grounded, intellectually curious, and committed to serving others. Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and public relation skills are necessary to succeed in this role. This individual must work well with high school students and their parents and be committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and mission-centered athletic environment. Duties and Responsibilities • Coordinate and conduct sport tryouts • Ensure unwavering sportsmanship and ethical behavior within the team and during all events • Plan and lead purposeful, challenging practice sessions that promote skill development and team unity • Develop game strategies that enhance team performance and player growth • Provide constructive, affirming coaching throughout all practices and competitions • Be present at all team functions, or arrange for appropriate coverage; provide crowd control at home events in alignment with MHSA guidelines and the school's mission • Maintain equipment and facilities to ensure safe and effective use • Supervise and support all Assistant Coaches in accordance with school and diocesan policies • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required • Knowledge of the sport and its rules, strategies, and training methods • Demonstrated success and leadership in competitive coaching • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with student athletes and their families • Understanding of physical training, strength, and conditioning techniques • Must complete the Diocese of Helena Safe Environment Training (Virtus) and have a clean background check prior to working with student-athletes • Ability to lift and/or move equipment – some items over 50 pounds • Ensure all assistants and volunteer coaches are Virtus trained, current on monthly Virtus Bulletins, and cleared by background check • Ensure all assistants and volunteer coaches complete the necessary training required by the MHSA Mission Alignment In all aspects of the position, the Head Coach is expected to advance the mission of Loyola Sacred Heart High School: Living the charisms of the Jesuits and Sisters of Providence, Missoula Catholic Schools is compelled through Christ's love to serve Western Montana families by providing an excellent Catholic education while forming young people of compassion, conscience, competence and community.
