Senior Human Resources Generalist

Company Description The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is a state government agency dedicated to conserving sustainable fish, wildlife, and park resources across Montana. FWP manages these resources to support diverse recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The agency conducts law enforcement activities to uphold regulations related to fish, wildlife, and state parks. Role Description The Senior Human Resources Generalist is a full-time, on-site role based in Helena, MT, supporting FWP’s workforce and organizational goals. This role oversees and administers HR programs, including employee relations, performance management, recruitment support, and onboarding. The Senior Human Resources Generalist interprets and applies HR policies, collaborates with managers on complex HR issues, and ensures compliance with state and federal employment laws. The role also provides guidance and training to staff on HR investigation and corrective action procedures, fostering a fair, inclusive, and respectful workplace.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Human Resources (HR) practices, including generalist experience across multiple HR functions
• Proficiency in HR Management and implementation of HR Policies in a government or similarly regulated environment
• Understanding of state and federal employment laws and regulations
• Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is preferred
• Experience working in public sector or natural resource agencies is beneficial
