Role Description

The Deputy Director at Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will assist in managing the agency’s operations, implementing its strategic vision, and providing leadership to ensure organizational goals are met. Responsibilities include overseeing program development, ensuring regulatory compliance, fostering partnerships with community stakeholders, and supporting resource conservation initiatives. The Deputy Director will also supervise staff, manage budgets, and serve as a key representative in agency-related matters. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Helena, MT.


Qualifications

  • Leadership and Management: Proven experience in organizational leadership, decision-making, and staff supervision.
  • Policy and Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of fish, wildlife, and parks-related laws, policies, and conservation principles.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including public speaking and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strategic Planning and Problem-Solving: Expertise in developing and implementing strategic plans, as well as addressing complex challenges efficiently.
  • Budget and Administration: Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and administrative oversight.
  • Collaboration and Partnership-Building: Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with community members, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, natural resources, or a related field is preferred. Advanced degrees or equivalent experience are considered assets.
  • Commitment to Mission: Passion for conservation, recreation, and ensuring sustainable use of Montana’s natural resources.
