What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Government Relations position at Montana Electric Cooperatives' Association?
The Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association (MECA) is seeking a dynamic, experienced individual to serve as its Director of Government Relations. This position plays a pivotal role in advocating for Montana’s rural electric cooperatives at both the state and federal levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as MECA’s primary lobbyist at the Montana Legislature.
- Provide expert testimony at hearings and build strong working relationships with lawmakers, the Governor’s office, and state agency officials.
- Monitor and engage in federal legislative and regulatory issues, working closely with Montana’s congressional delegation and federal agencies.
- Collaborate with MECA leadership to establish policy priorities and strategies that benefit member cooperatives.
- Manage MECA’s Political Action Committee (PAC), including recruitment, member tracking, contribution decisions, and meeting administration.
- Oversee MECA’s grassroots program, including member recruitment and communication on government affairs issues.
- Periodic travel within Montana and out-of-state to attend member cooperative, regional and national organization meetings.
Qualifications:
- Prior lobbying experience is required.
- Exceptional presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- A college degree in a related field is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Knowledge of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution is a plus.
- Must reside within a 30-minute drive of the Montana State Capitol in Helena.
