What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Montana Department of Transportation?
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for an Accountant. This position is responsible for ensuring accounting treatment is recorded in accordance with GAAP, maintain accurate and reliable financial statements, and establish and maintain internal controls. Conducts financial monitoring to ensure cost efficiency and compliance within the Department’s accounting, budgeting and fiscal bureaus. Assists with maintaining the database of MDT assets. This position ensures state compliance with complex federal regulations and establishes goals, objectives and priorities for all accounting functions. Provides technical assistance to division/district financial contacts, budget analysts, and project management to ensure consistent application of policies and procedures. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. This position reports to the Accounting Management Section Supervisor and does not supervise others.

Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 1 year of related accounting experience.
- Alternative combinations of related experience or education may be considered. Such as an associate’s degree in accounting and 3 years of related accounting experience; OR 5 years of related accounting experience.
