POSITION SUMMARY
The Middle School Principal serves as the administrative leader of the building, overseeing educational programs, supervising staff with integrity and vision, and ensuring the safe and effective operation of the facility in compliance with state and federal laws, the Michigan School Code, and Board of Education policies. The Principal is responsible for fostering a positive school culture that drives academic excellence and inspires innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement, where educators are empowered to excel and students are inspired to reach their highest potential.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or higher in Educational Administration, with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction
- Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate and Michigan Driver’s License
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
- Prior administrative experience at the relevant instructional level preferred
- Knowledge of effective teaching methods, curriculum development, and strategies that drive student achievement
- Demonstrated excellence in leadership, strategic planning, organization, and budget management
- Commitment to continuous school improvement, fostering innovation, and maintaining a positive school culture
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with staff, students, and families
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a leadership team and inspire others toward shared goals

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Foster and maintain a safe, orderly, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment
- Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, and develop high-performing staff
- Supervise building-level counseling, guidance, and assessment programs
- Lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of building-level curriculum and instructional programs to promote continuous improvement and student growth
- Support and partner with staff to design and implement effective, research-based instructional strategies that enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning
- Demonstrate knowledge of diverse instructional models and innovative teaching practices while honoring established district traditions
- Collaborate with special education and gifted/talented staff ensuring high-quality programming for diverse learners
- Facilitate and lead a collaborative School Improvement Team focused on achieving building and district goals
- Monitor student achievement through data analysis and informed decision-making to drive continuous academic improvement
- Ensure accurate student accounting and reporting in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
- Utilize technology to enhance administrative efficiency and support instructional innovation
- Conduct staff evaluations aligned with contractual expectations, district standards, and professional best practices
- Implement and uphold Board policies, administrative procedures, contractual agreements, and ensure compliance of all state and federal laws and regulations
- Oversee building safety, health, emergency preparedness, and compliance with all regulations
- Collaborate effectively with central office leadership and district departments to support operational excellence
- Cultivate meaningful family engagement and encourage active participation in school programs and activities
- Build and sustain strong family and community partnerships through consistent communication, outreach, and engagement in school and community events
- Develop, manage, and monitor building budgets in alignment with district priorities and the school’s mission
- Oversee the selection, allocation, and stewardship of building resources, materials, textbooks, and equipment
- Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current with educational research, trends, and best practices
- Serve as a visible, approachable leader positively representing the school within the district, the community, and at events
- Demonstrate professionalism through reliable attendance, ethical conduct, and dependable leadership
- Keep the Superintendent informed of significant accomplishments, emerging needs, and challenges
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent
