About the Role:
The Irrigation Team Leader oversees the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of all irrigation systems throughout the nursery, ensuring efficient water and fertility management across container-grown ornamental crops. This role leads the irrigation team in monitoring water quality, managing fertilizer injection systems, and coordinating irrigation schedules in alignment with company safety and operational standards. The position requires strong technical irrigation knowledge and leadership skills to collaborate effectively with nursery production staff and drive plant quality and operational efficiency.
Employment Status: Employment is full-time, year- round.
Shift: Morning shift between 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, hours are subject to change based on business needs.
Compensation: $19.00-$22.00 Depending on Experience

- Lead the irrigation team in daily work assignments, repairs, maintenance activities, and special projects.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install irrigation systems including drip irrigation, spray stakes, overhead irrigation, mist systems, valves, pumps, controllers, lateral lines, fertilizer injectors, and related equipment.
- Monitor and adjust irrigation schedules
- Ensure proper irrigation coverage and uniformity throughout nursery production areas to support optimal plant health and growth.
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of pump houses, wells, filtration systems, fertilizer injection systems, and water distribution infrastructure.
- Monitor water quality including pH, EC, alkalinity, and nutrient levels and assist with corrective actions when needed.
- Maintain accurate records for irrigation schedules, fertility programs, water usage, line sample readings, irrigation repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Coordinate and oversee irrigation sampling procedures and submission of samples to laboratories as required.
- Monitor nursery blocks for irrigation-related issues including dry spots, overwatering, runoff, clogged emitters, pressure inconsistencies, and disease conditions associated with excessive moisture.
- Assist with propagation irrigation management including mist cycles and moisture control for successful rooting and plant establishment.
- Support water conservation initiatives and Best Management Practices (BMPs) to minimize water and fertilizer waste.
- Maintain irrigation parts inventory and oversee ordering of irrigation supplies, equipment, and repair materials in accordance with company purchasing procedures.
- Complete requisition forms and obtain required approvals for irrigation-related purchases.
- Assist in planning and installation of irrigation systems for new nursery production areas and improvement projects.
- Train and mentor irrigation team
- Assist with scheduling irrigation team coverage.
- Respond to emergency irrigation system failures.
- Communicate regularly with production coaches regarding irrigation priorities, crop conditions, and operational concerns.

- Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Have a minimum of 2–3 years of irrigation experience, preferably within a container ornamental nursery or agricultural production environment.
- Have strong understanding of irrigation systems, fertilizer injection systems, pumps, valves, controllers, and water management practices.
- Have experience troubleshooting irrigation electrical components, solenoids, wiring, and control systems.
- Have experience with irrigation scheduling and water conservation practices.
- Are open to working in an area with moderate noise levels that may be wet and humid with odors or airborne particles.
- Can lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly or 50 pounds on occasion.
- Have full range of mobility in your upper and lower body, can reach overhead and work in various positions including stooping, standing walking, bending over, and squatting; can lift, pull and push materials, use hands and fingers to feel, handle plants or operate objects, tools or controls; are able to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus, all with or without a reasonable accommodation.
