TITLE: Science Teacher (Biological or Earth Science)
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Single Subject Credential with Biology or Earth Science Authorization; EL Certification; NCLB Compliant
JOB GOAL:To teach one or more classes of biology or earth science to students and assist in other school programs as assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
•Teach scientific skills and knowledge through courses in biology or earth science utilizing California State Standards and other appropriate learning activities.
•Plan a balanced science instructional program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organize laboratory activities and procedures for optimum learning.
•Demonstrate scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches and other instructional aids.
•Provide individual or small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
•Select and request books, instructional aids, scientific equipment, chemicals, glassware and supplies and maintain inventory records as required.
•Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
•Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary or assigned.
•Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
•Communicate with parents and school counselors on individual pupil's progress.
•Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
•Perform basic attendance accounting and clerical tasks as required.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
