About the Role:
The Nursery Inventory Coach is primarily responsible for maximizing sales opportunities by maintaining inventory accuracy and providing reliable ready dates and current availability comments at Monrovia's California Nursery. This role works closely with the Crop Grower Coaches and Nursery Grower Coach to manage inventory processes, monitor on-hand and work-in-process inventory, and identify opportunities for improvement across the sales allocation process. The Coach oversees Inventory Craftsmen AND the Inventory Control Coach and partners with the Regional Sales Coach to keep availability, completion dates, and plant specifications accurate and dependable. Occasionally the Nursery Inventory Coach will assist with inventory audits required by lenders and audit partners.
Employment Status: Full-Time, Year-Round, Exempt
Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (hours may vary based on business needs; extended hours may be required)
Compensation: $75,000 Annually

- Perform daily maintenance of On Hand/WIP inventory, plant completion dates, and the Total Inventory Report to accurately represent inventory assets across the company
- Maintain accurate availability comments, plant size specs, and plant grades to improve communication and support sales opportunities
- Regularly review and adjust WIP order completion dates and expiration dates against the all-supply report to provide accurate, dependable information for sales customer allocation
- Manage the daily cycle count process and adjust pick preferences as needed, partnering with Crop Grower Coaches to maximize inventory and location accuracy
- Supervise Photo Availability List (PAL) photos and field staking/flagging, coaching craftsmen on quality and adherence to company standards
- Identify plant shortages, surpluses, and mixed varieties, and communicate findings to Crop Grower Coaches and the Regional Sales Coach for canning or sales decisions
- Manage intra-company plant transfers and respond to Regional Sales Coach inquiries with timely inventory information
- Partner with Crop Grower Coaches and the Nursery Grower Coach on data collection accuracy, quality control of assembly, bed labeling, and field estimates for canning lists and production planning
- Assist with inventory audits required by lenders and audit partners, lead inventory training, and participate in MNQ process improvement initiatives
- Identify needed plant actions during routine field reviews, recommend monthly sale list items, and perform other related duties as assigned

- Have basic computer knowledge and proficient with MS Excel
- Have strong plant identification and plant cultural knowledge
- Are well organized, detail-oriented, and proficient with basic math skills
- Are comfortable managing daily data entry, inventory audits, and cycle count reviews across a high-SKU-count environment
- Demonstrate ability to supervise and coach a team, including Inventory Craftsmen and the Inventory Control Coach
- Have sound judgment for knowing when to solve a problem directly versus escalate it
- Are bilingual (English/Spanish) required; able to communicate clearly and build trust with a majority Spanish-speaking workforce
- Self-motivated and proactive with a can-do attitude and commitment to excellence
- Are open to working extended hours if needed, based on the business need.
- Are punctual and dependable.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds up to 50 pounds on occasion
- Have the full range of mobility in your upper and lower body, can reach overhead and work in various positions including stooping, standing walking, bending over, and squatting; can lift, pull, and push materials, use hands and fingers to feel, handle plants or operate objects, tools or controls; are able to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus, all with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Can work high noise level environments
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in horticulture or a related field, and/or at least 3 years of related experience with solid knowledge in data entry and analysis, horticulture, and/or inventory management
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Comfortable using inventory and business systems to manage data, reporting, and sales allocation
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
