What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Per Diem position at MONROVIA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL?
Summary:
Responsible for performing laboratory testing, quality control measures, in a timely manner. The Clinical Laboratory Scientists supervised by the Director of the Laboratory, and ultimately responsible to the Medical Director for the Laboratory Services/Department.
Duties:
- Performs venipunctures and finger punctures to obtain specimens for laboratory procedures, as needed.
- Enters tests requisitions in the computer appropriately.
- Communicates appropriate report and assignment to co-workers. Follows up with team members during the shift.
- Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Laboratory Director.
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision of high complexity test performance by testing personnel.
- Provides direct supervision when high complex testing is performed by laboratory personnel. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- Maintains records according to established procedures.
- Ability to prioritize workload according to department needs.
- Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
- Provides orientation to all testing personnel and to perform only those high/moderate complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience and technical abilities
- Interprets/analyzes diagnostic data and test results using established norms for the adult/geriatric patient.
- Demonstrates defined practice patterns for the control and prevention of contamination.
- Maintains defined practice standards for the control of hazardous waste and for infection control standards.
- Responsible for preventing potential bacteriologic or viral hazards from the time a specimen is collected until it is permanently disposed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:
- Must have Minimum of two (2) years experience in Generalist/Blood Banking in a Hospital setting.
- Must meet CLIA requirements for General Supervisor for High Complex Testing.
- Willing to take calls in the Afternoon.
Licensure/Certification /Education Requirements:
- Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist license in the State of California.
