TITLE: Physical Therapist
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist will plan, conduct and evaluate therapy/intervention services in accordance with district and professional standards and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and program evaluation for students. The PT will perform program planning for physical therapy or appropriate options for each Individual Education Program (IEP), provide treatment and management of the disability based upon results of evaluation, which may include direct and/or indirect therapy services. The PT is responsible for monitoring proper fit, use and adjustment of specialized equipment and will maintain records and documentation as set forth in the Individual Education Program (IEP) and is subject to ongoing student progress monitoring.
Preferred Education and Experience
? Prior experience in the school setting preferred
? Such other qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate
? Current valid CPR and First Aid may be required for the specific assignment
Special Requirements
? Valid Washington state Educational Staff Associate Certificate as a Physical Therapist
? Physical Therapist license for the State of Washington
? Valid First Aid/CPR card
? Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearance
? I-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
? HIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
? Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date – District provided)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
? Principles, goals and objectives of public education
? Knowledge of student evaluation processes and procedures
? Ability to identify students with physical disability, motor deficit, movement dysfunction, and/or developmental delay
? Ability to work cooperatively with staff, administration and support personnel in a team approach to solving individual learning problems
? Ability to access a child using both standardized and clinical assessment techniques
? Abide by all district policies and procedures along with building/department practices
? Adhere to federal, state laws and district regulations, policies, procedures and practices
? Mandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse, harassment, intimidation, bullying, fights, substance abuse, etc.
? Abides by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreement
? Observe strict confidentiality regarding student information
? Maintain regular punctual attendance

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The list of position responsibilities are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of the following duties:
1. Diagnose, prescribe and implement an instructional and activity program to meet each student’s aptitude, interest, level of achievement, instructional and motor development needs.
2. Conduct parent and/or parent-student conferences to interpret students’ educational, social/behavioral, and physical development and interpret program rationale.
3. Develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each identified child.
4. Provide physical therapy services for students with identified physical disability, motor deficit, movement dysfunction, and/or developmental delay which interferes with learning in the educational environment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
? Ability to successfully communicate with students, parents, district staff members, and other concerned individuals regarding all aspects of their job-related activities
? Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time; walking for short distances and running on occasion
? Accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, and depth perception
? Must have fine and gross motor skills
? Some lifting of students up to 150 pounds may be required on occasion

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
This position is that of Physical Therapist and is represented by the Monroe Education Association collective bargaining unit. The position will work a schedule in coordination with the District student calendar. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement. Employee is required to complete all mandatory district trainings.
EVALUATION PROCEDURES
The Physical Therapist shall be evaluated by the Director of Student Services according to currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee’s performance of the above position responsibilities.
