What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-Time Hair Stylist – Commission Based | Monroe Hair Studio, San Marcos TX position at Monroe Hair Studio?
Full-Time Hair Stylist – Commission Based | Monroe Hair Studio, San Marcos TX
This is a full-time, set-schedule role. It includes late nights and Saturdays. Read to the end to complete all necessary application requirements.
Welcome to Monroe! Monroe Hair Studio is growing, and we're building something special. Our new East Hopkins Street location puts three spaces under one roof: the Hair Studio, the Hair Bar, and The Head Spa at Monroe. We're part of a small family of independently owned San Marcos salons that also includes Olivia Presley Hair Co.
Gold-level service. Gold-level culture. Our team is built around two things: your development and our success together. We invest in our stylists with real education, mentorship, and a clear path forward. In return, we look for people who show up for each other, hold high standards, and want the whole salon to win, not just their own chair.
If you're looking for a spot to rent and work on your own, we're not your salon. If you want to grow your career on a team that's growing with you, keep reading.
A career path, not just a chair. We're a commission salon. Our pay structures are built for stability, and they reward you for being productive. We have three levels:
- Apprentice: For those not yet ready to take services. You train hands-on with our Education Director until you're checked off to take clients at the Hair Bar.
- Hair Bar: Typically for stylists with less than 3 years of experience. You start with a focused service menu and get ongoing mentorship while you build your book, working toward promotion to the full-service salon.
- Hair Studio (full service): For experienced stylists ready to run a full menu and grow within our tier system.
Every level has a clear next step, and we pay for the education to get you there.
How placement works: Years of experience are only part of the picture. We place every new team member based on several factors:
- Current openings and hiring needs at each level
- Your skill and presentation during your model interview
- Your professionalism: communication, reliability, and how you carry yourself with clients and teammates
- How comfortable you are with our service menus, color line, and methods
- Where you'll be set up to succeed and keep growing
Your path is based on you, and promotions are earned through skill, consistency, and professionalism.
Why stylists love it here: We're a small business, so we don't offer traditional corporate benefits. What we do offer is everything a small salon can give to help you grow, specialize, and enjoy what you do:
- Commission pay, plus retail commission and 100% of your tips
- Pay built for stability, with rewards for productivity
- Coordinated in-house education: team classes, onboarding in The Monroe Method, and structured mentorship.
- Room to specialize: color, custom cuts, hair enhancements, education. We help you develop into the area that excites you most.
- Vendor support: access to our partners for training, product knowledge, and early launches
- Salon-paid marketing that promotes you as a specialist under the Monroe brand
- All color, product, and supplies provided. You never buy your own backbar.
- A well-structures discount plan for you, plus friends-and-family discounts for the people you love
- A real team: a lead stylist, an education director, and teammates who have your back
Schedule: Full-time, 36-38 hours a week of consistent, bookable availability.
We build our schedules from set templates coordinated around salon needs, so the team covers the hours our clients want to book. Every full-time schedule includes:
- 1–2 late nights per week
- 2–3 Saturdays per month
- Prime-time blackout dates. During our busiest seasons, time off is restricted so you can maximize your earnings when demand is highest.
We're looking for stylists who want to work and get paid. If you need a highly flexible or pick-your-own-hours schedule, this won't be the right fit.
Our standards: We hold everyone to the same standard, from apprentice to senior stylist.
- We have a strict attendance policy, and it applies to everyone equally
- We expect you to show up on time, prepared, and ready to take care of your clients and your team
- We protect the client experience and our team culture above everything else
Who we're looking for:
- You want to be part of a team, not work next to one
- A portfolio you're proud of, or a real hunger to build one
- Strong color skills, or eagerness to master a new color line
- You rebook, you recommend retail, and your clients return
- You're coachable. You want feedback and ongoing education.
- You treat teammates, clients, and the front desk with respect
- You celebrate other people's wins and pitch in when the team needs it
It has to be the right fit. We take hiring seriously because fit matters, for you and for us. Our interview and model day are designed so we both know it's the right match before you join the team.
How to apply: We want to get to know you before we meet. To be considered, apply through Indeed and email the following to
- Your resume
- A portfolio of your work: photos of your best color, cuts, and styling. Before-and-afters are a plus.
- Your social accounts: Instagram, TikTok, or any other accounts where you share your work
