Part-Time, 25 hours per week


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

I perform a wide variety of daily production activities for the multiple-channel network offerings of the Library’s Community Access Television Services (CATS). I am the public face of CATS and am responsible for providing excellent customer service, both on location and at the CATS production facilities.

I assist in supporting Library customers in the use of various recording and editing equipment, as well as responding to technical and clerical support tasks; escalating as appropriate.

Expertise

In my daily work, I may:

  • Record live coverage of community events and government meetings.
  • Operate video cameras and audio equipment to produce live and recorded programs for CATS’ telecasts and website presence.
  • Set-up and break down various audio-visual equipment before and after each shoot.
  • Transport equipment to/from field site using library vehicles.
  • Ensure cameras and microphones are properly placed and all equipment is functioning properly prior to recording and/or live telecast.
  • Safely return all equipment to the proper Library facilities storage area.
  • Perform post-production activities; including media editing, title, graphics creation, and labeling.
  • Perform other essential functions; completing the program within the stipulated timeframe.
  • Train customers on the use of video, audio, and editing equipment and answer related questions.
  • Attend weekly production meetings to confirm scheduling of events, and I provide information to assist supervisors with resolution and improvement of any technical matters.
  • Occasionally assist with master control duties by checking out video equipment and various media to customers.
  • Responsible for monitoring five channels, three live streams, and being the first point of contact for library customers in the CATS unit.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks within the unit to maintain operation of the facility and to assure all equipment in proper working order.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with employees, patrons and community contacts (including government officials) of all ages, education and skills levels.
  • Ability to lift light to moderately heavy objects required.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Video production or related technical coursework/training required.
  • One year of experience, with demonstrated understanding of basic video production principles, required.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and safe driving record required.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent sitting and performing various repetitive actions and extensive use of keyboards, mice monitors, and varied digital devices, requires using hands to finger, handling or feeling and repetitive motions.
  • Regular standing, walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.
  • Work has standard vision requirements; frequent speaking, vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Frequent effective communication skills to relay and perceive information when interacting with others.
  • Frequent moving/transporting of materials and equipment from 25 lbs. – 50 lbs. of weight.
  • Occasional moving/transporting of loads 75 lbs. . (must be performed with another staff member’s assistance).
  • Occasional ascending/descending stairs, ramps, and other heights/depths, and inclines.
  • Regular bending at the waist and at the knees associated with materials transfers.
  • Requires the ability to read, observe, closely inspect, and detect areas needing repair, correction of safety concerns, guidance of transporting equipment, and driving of vehicles.
  • Regular safe operation of machinery and equipment. Maintains awareness and observation of general surroundings and activities.
  • Occasional climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms.
  • Regular exposure to outside elements; heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, etc. when performing outside tasks or traveling on library business (transporting materials between buildings or similar assignments).
  • Occasional exposure to fluctuations in interior conditions such as noise and temperatures.
  • Normal library working conditions; moderate exposure to office/maintenance chemicals (cleaning solutions, glue, paint, etc.).

Supervision Received

Receives general supervision. Follows standard procedures and operates with infrequent functional guidance. Works independently and normally sets work flow and performance routines. Unusual questions and situations are referred to the supervisor or manager, frequently accompanied with additional information and suggestions for correction.
