Function of Position
- Foster the development of independent, intentional learners
- Help students understand and use effective learning strategies
- Provide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings
- Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
- Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters
- Collaborate with the Director of Learning Support Systems on providing workshops to fill learning gaps of both tutors and students with discipline-specific content. The Director of Learning Support Systems will collaborate with the Engineering Sciences Department as needed.
- Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook
- Promote critical thinking and problem solving
- Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content
- Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring services
- Assist with other learning assistance projects as assigned
- Adheres to the College Code of Conduct.
- Contributes to, supports, and maintains an equitable, inclusive, and collaborative College environment.
- Maintains technological competencies utilized by the College.
- Commits to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
- Commits to professional growth. which includes seeking ongoing training in diversity, equity and inclusion to better serve students.
Required Qualifications
- Associates or working towards a bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences or related field
- Technology savvy
- Experience working with diverse college populations
- Two years of tutoring experience in Engineering Sciences
