What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teachers - for Extended School Year Programs position at Monroe #1 BOCES?
This is for an Extended School Year (ESY) program and is considered a BOCES ESY position.

LOCATION OF POSITION: Fairport NY 14450; various locations
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: July 9, 2026 - August 19, 2026. Full Time. Hours vary depending on location. For all BOCES Programs Pre and Post summer trainings and set-up as directed.
Mandatory Summer Set-Up Meetings
June 2nd = Transition/Employment
June 3rd = O'Connor Academy, eStart, Creekside (BPA Unit TES Staff)
June 10th = Creekside (BUP Unit), Bird/Morgan
SALARY RANGE: $32.33 - $52.43 per hour (or higher pending contract negotiations) or your 2026-27 rate in this title for current Monroe One Boces staff

- Actual Salary Is Dependent Upon Education, Experience and Contract.
- Plan and provide instruction for students with disabilities in accordance with NYS mandates and standards.
- Implement individualized behavior intervention plans for students with behavioral needs.
- Develop, implement and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet student needs.
- Develop, implement and evaluate lesson plans utilizing IEP goals, the Common Core, and best practices.
- Work on a multidisciplinary team to foster collaborative planning and an interdisciplinary approach to learning.
- Effectively communicate with school staff, parents, districts and community agencies.
- Act as case manager for team of Paraeducators and related service providers.
- Appropriate Special Education Certification.
- Applicants must commit to working the full 30-day Summer Program.
- Attend a mandatory planning meeting.
- Experience with students with developmental disabilities.
- Training in Life Crisis Intervention strategies, TCI, SCIP-R or similar problem-solving strategies preferred.
- Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation) including, but not limited to:
- Physical intervention techniques
- Supporting/transporting students in wheelchairs and/or providing assistance with transfer, ambulation and positioning
- Swimming
- Escorting, walking with, or in some cases running after students in multiple settings such as in community-based activities, nature walks and school buildings
- Lifting as necessary in all programs
- Knowledge and experience with implementation of NYS standards and NYS Alternative Assessment.
- Proven leadership with classroom team management preferred.
- Training in instructional strategies for students with autism.
- Knowledge of adult agencies/transition plans for students with developmental disabilities
- NYS Special Education Certification K-6 or 7-12.
- Knowledge of developmental levels of Elementary or Middle school students.
- Experience utilizing Applied Behavioral Analysis and/or TEACCH methodology.
- Experience working in a model program that utilizes community resources base for instruction.
- Experience utilizing assistive technology.
