Building and Grounds Operator
JOB PURPOSE
Keeps premises of buildings in clean and orderly condition by cleaning and performing minor preventive maintenance tasks and repairs along with EHS compliance checks and audits. Position reports to Maintenance Manager with EHS responsibilities reporting directly to EHS manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be self-motivated and have high integrity
- Maintaining buildings and grounds in top condition.
- Uses and operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Working closely with other departments to ensure supplies and needs are filled, dispensers, foaming and more.
- Perform as contact point for building repair needs, outside vendors, and contractors on special projects.
- Maintain and ensure the waste rooms, compactor areas and other outlying areas on property are in top condition and appearance.
- Ability to read chemical labels and material safety data sheets (MSDS).
- Transports trash and waste to disposal areas with the use of pallet jack or forklift as needed.
- Maintain and update plant signage as needed on grounds and buildings.
- Directly involved with and responsible for areas of concern the internal and external GMP audits might note. Address and correct to completion, any concerns that arise.
- Perform minor building repairs; painting doors, lights, walls, water leaks, etc…
- Performs landscaping duties. Performs snow removal and salting of facilities and access ways.
- Transports small equipment or tools between departments using a pallet jack.
- Helps with cleaning during shift when foreign material issues occur
- Maintains knife stands in production- checks them and makes sure they are in good condition.
- Maintain quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily inspections; fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, emergency lighting, ladder inspection, AED checks, all doors are working properly and more as needed.
- Work with Safety to properly dispose of aerosol cans and more.
- Ensuring hazardous waste is stored appropriately.
- Capable of performing as backup for SPCC and hazardous waste inspections periodically if needed.
- Perform other duties as required or directed
- This position will be require weekend work
Qualifications:
Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district’s insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.
Certifications needed:
- Must be able to be certified to use pallet jack, forklift, tractor and high lift
Equipment and Machinery used:
- Lawn mower, snow blower, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, hand tools for minor plant repairs. Pressure washers.
- Tools: power hand tools, caulk guns, yard tools- leave blower, weed eater, pressure washer and more.
Education, prior work experience and specialized skills and knowledge:
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively.
- Able to use basic hand tools.
- Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
- Basic record keeping practices.
- Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.
Physical environment/work conditions:
The position is in the plant and on the grounds outside the plant requiring standing, walking, and lifting for long periods of time throughout the day. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The position requires the employee to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
**MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE TO WORK FOR MONOGRAM FOODS**
