CHILDREN'S COOKING INSTRUCTOR
Do you love working with children, tweens, and teens? Do you love sharing your passion for cooking? We are looking for a knowledgeable, reliable, and passionate, cooking instructor to join our staff!
Job Requirements:
- Ability to instruct a group of 8-10 youth ages 4-16.
- Ability to create a recipe packet and create a grocery list.
- Ability to follow safe food handling practices including heating meats to proper temperatures. Ability to maintain proper kitchen hygiene. Ability to maintain a safe kitchen environment including instructing and supervising proper knife skills and safety while using stovetop and ovens.
- Ability to plan balanced and nutritious recipes.
- Ability to set up kitchen including assembling folding chairs, dishes, pots and pans, and cooking utensils. Ability to supervise youth during kitchen cleanup and reset which includes running dishwasher, washing pots and pans, collapsing folding chairs, and sweeping.
- Ability to lead a hands-on cooking program including instructing children on different techniques.
- Must pass a criminal history background check.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with kids preferred.
- Knowledge of recipes, cooking techniques, food safety, kitchen safety required.
- Have a mastery of the following skills and the ability to instruct them: chopping, measuring (dry and wet ingredients), mixing, pouring, whipping, blending, sautéing, browning, baking, icing, decorating, plating, etc.
- Organizational and time management skills required. Ability to plan a 1 hour cooking program including starting and ending promptly.
Location:
Dorbrook Recreation Area, Colts Neck NJ
Hours:
Wednesdays 2:15pm-7:30pm; Thursdays 3:15pm-7:30pm; select Saturdays 1:30pm-6:30pm starting January 7, 2026. Successful candidate must be available these days and hours. The schedule is not flexible at this time.
The position is a 9 month seasonal position and runs September-June. There are breaks for school holidays, winter break, and spring break.
Pay:
Competitive rate per class. Inquire for pay rates. Paid training will be provided. This includes observing, co-teaching, and being mentored by an experienced cooking instructor.
